Aeturnus | ‘Ascension Of Terror’

Touring with Cannibal Corpse and Deicide may have been commercially the best move for Aeturnus but I still feel it has impacted negatively upon their music. This may as well be the same review I wrote for “Shadows of Old”. Simply put, Aeturnus are at their best when they are Epic and Bombastic, as heard on “And so the Night Became”. Not when they are playing riffs from “Once Upon the Cross”. Can we please have back the Epic Norse Black Aeturnus and not the Floridian-Morriscorpse version? I am in a sense being overly critical as in someone else’s hands “Ascension…” might be quite a pleasing Death Metal album, but I’m not someone else, and I have high standards…you have to! Who wants another pleasant and solid album? We want vital listening. For me things are simply not that easy. Please Ronnie forget about being brutal and get back to moving people with Dark and Witching Norse Grimness!
