Caught In A Dream

Caught In A Dream - Sleeping With Nahlvalr

Ever fall asleep with the headphones in? Last night I did, and to no less than the horrendous bile that is Nahvalr. Extremely unpleasant stuff to half wake up to; this is layered ambient music with the atmosphere of the most nihilistic of Black Metal. Occasionally, flares of completely relentless metallic attack race across what are some of the creepiest soundscapes I’ve heard in a long time.

Their debut self-titled album has just been released by ENEMIES LIST and features artwork that’s as effective as the music, even if it does look strikingly similar to Forgotten Tomb’s excellent ‘Springtime Depression’. I get the impression that if Portal put the guitars to one side and decided to focus on the soundscape aspect, it wouldn’t sound too far from this at all. Cheers to Ruadhan for the heads up!

  1. So you’re finished with the dietary sleep hypnosis tape?
If so can I have it back?

  2. De rien. For an even more manic approach, give Wold - Screech Owl a shot. Absolutely demented black noise, which segues into something almost hellishly soothing over the course of the album. Great pre dreaming-about-dead-baby-mice and-great-big-fuck-off spiders music.

  3. I just wanted to say thankyou for putting this on your blog this.
