And Hell Followed With | ‘Proprioception’
With what?
Is it an American thing, meaning forthwith? I guess that would only be marginally less worse as a band name. They’re already round about one of the worst bands of 2010.
That’s a qualified ‘worst’. Obviously they can play, a bit. That’s not the point of a good band though. A good band has an agenda, a reason, an esprit de corps. This groaning display is boring beyond narcolepsy, and the band are soulless.
Deathcore is a ridiculous genre. It sounds in no way ominous or deathly, while at the same time being at a vast remove from the realities of either historical or modern hardcore. Neither is it new: there are precedents for it that were better years ago.
Internal Bleeding were Deathcore. Cryptopsy with Mike DiSalvo - that sounded like Deathcore, except of course they had the dignity and self awareness not to call it that. Pyrexia - loosely, they were a little deathcore too. For sooth, even Northern Ireland had DSFA and Emaciate, both of whom ploughing the furrow.
So this new youth wing with their obtuse partings, cheek piercings and all over print t-shirts can take a running leap.
This album simply isn’t heavy. Its drums are laughably processed, while the whole tone and approach just screams computers. Granted, they tour a lot. Who knows. This could possibly be good live.
And credit where it’s due, the atmospheric lead lines on here are at least clinically eerie.
The rest of it though is 100% indistinguishable - and I mean that - from whatever that other deathcore record I reviewed the other week was. Postmortem Promises. Them. Indistinguishable.
I was intriguiged enough by the title to find out what proprioception was - largely because Earache helpfully attached a note about how to pronounce it. A little presumptuous, given that precisely noone will be talking about this album, but anyhow.
It’s the awareness you have of your body. Like knowing that your leg is up, as opposed to down.
Yep. Whether your leg’s up or down. That’s death metal in 2010.

He’s bang on the money going by some of the tracks on myspace. Death Metal with hardcore breakdowns = Deathcore, no?
Given both bands are from New York it makes sense that they might have a HC influence.

From Internal Bleeding bio:
“Never content to just sit around and wait, Jerry Lowe (vocals), Frank Buffalino (guitar) and Matt Ferrara (guitar) found the time to form the NY-styled hardcore band PUNCHYOURFACE. It was beginning to be obvious that the next INTERNAL BLEEDING release would see more of a hardcore influence as the band prepared to re-enter the studio.”
Which, er, they did.

How do these bands get signed?

and honestly, why the fuck are people even debating what is or isn’t “deathcore”? The rule is simple:If it’s not Dismbodied, it isn’t deathcore.

“How do these bands get signed”
Out of curiosity i checked with management company they are with. The Artery Foundation, which honestly didnt suprise me.
Look at the hack of their current roster of bands

Band names that are so abstract and make no fucking sense to the same generic templated band promo photo, with stupid haircuts and low cut tops on blokes, then the “paying homage to metal” by wearing a Suffocation shirt included pose.
Fuck sake! This is kind of shit that really fucks me off with this industry.

Stop fucking whining about the image of these bands, you sound like teenage girls.
