Kashis | ‘I Welcome You’

Some bands are average, but are made by a killer vocalist.

Kashis, a new grunge / metal band from Lurgan in Northern Ireland, have managed to be a fantastic band as well as having one of the most able singers I’ve heard of late – meaning this EP is a pleasure to listen to.

Take a bit of Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, a little Life Of Agony, a bit of Stone Temple Pilots and mix it with the tiniest pinch of Opeth’s most accesilbe material and you’ve pretty much got them.

It’s perfectly produced, with real prominence given to the bass guitar in which for once every slide and glissando is perfectly audible, giving the music a real pulsing heart.

Both ‘The Monarchy Is Set To Kill’ and ‘We Are The Blind’ are absolutely excellent rockers, shocasing powerful vocal presence with nice subtle touches such as well placed harmonies that are neither obtrusive nor softening – they just add to the music.

There’s not a lot more I can say except that the band absolutely deserve to be listened to. Great alt-rock is always a gift that keeps giving, and pretty much everything about Kashis is bang on. They’ve got energy, they’re tight, the vocals are without doubt superb, and they really should begin to make waves if they can just push themselves properly.

Dont take my word for it – give it a spin and you’ll probably agree. There’s little or no artifice about them as far as I can see, and for an enormously satisfying grunge redux in your life you could do little better.
