PODCAST - Type O Negative's Johnny Kelly talks with Metalireland

By Muiris from Bloody Kisses

It’s hard to put into words how special Type O Negative are.

But they just are – to so, so many of us. This podcast is a real ambition fulfilled for us here at Metalireland: talking to their drummer Johnny Kelly.

And it’s not just that. This one’s a bit special because of the person doing the interview. Many longtime followers of Metalireland will know of Bloody Kisses, the Irish Type O tribute band, fronted by Muiris O’Fiannachta.

Well, this podcast is about Muiris talking to the man who’s been such a huge musical influence on his life. Johnny talks about losing Peter Steele; how ‘October Rust’ and ‘Dead Again’ were written; and also about his later bands A Pale Horse Named Death and Seventh Void.

  1. Words can’t express how much I love Type O Negative, nor can they express the massive impact they’ve had on my life, so I was thrilled to see this pop up on the site! Johnny’s an absolute legend. Very excited at the prospect of a new Seventh Void record. Thought the first one was immense, and adding more Type O elements to the new one can only be a good thing! I never had the good fortune to see TON or Carnivore live and I’m envious of those who caught them at the SFX at the peak of their powers. I saw Bloody Kisses play in the Cruiscin Lan in Cork on the first anniversary of Pete’s passing. Fantastic tribute band and a great way to celebrate the Green Man’s legacy, so it was very cool to hear Muiris get to conduct this interview. Cheers, and stay negative!

  2. Nice one lads. Fair play to Muiris for not slobbering 🙂 and that was a great attempt by CT to pronounce Muiris’ surname 😀

Really enjoyed that. Great interview. Johnnys a very down to earth guy.
Glad to here he is still working and busy.

  4. Great to hear Johnny talk about the drum programming. It tends to be taboo subject for most drummers.
Hopefully he’ll be back over soon enough with Danzig! 🙂

  5. Anonymous Says:

    Great stuff, that.

  6. Great interview, well done guys.

  7. Blizzard Beast Says:

Great to see this appear on the site and also hear from Type O.
