With the advent of the Internet it has become clear that the world is full of whack jobs. We've all seen the 9/11 stuff and the various New World Order stuff but one I keep coming across lately is that the world is actually flat! What does anyone have to gain by fooling everyone that the earth is spherical?

If you have any examples of whacky theories please share

Hitler was actually bang on and the world today would be much better if he'd had his way:

I turned off around the five hour mark, just after the list of things about the modern world that we wouldn't have to deal with if the third Reich had won and the "token" controversial quotes from Mohammed Ali about how the races shouldn't mix.

I don't think I've ever watched anything for 5 hours! Here's a 10 Top doing the rounds at the minute http://www.theweek.co.uk/62926/conspira ... cret-plots

Indeed. It's the quick overview part I liked about it. Please do share any more insanity you find.

One states that AIDS is a CIA invention to wipe out africa/gays. I think there's another one that states it's a USSR invention

The historical ones are some of my favourite. Try out 'Ireland: Land of the Pharaohs' for size:

There's a bit of a clusterfuck of conspiracy theories around AIDS, from wilful invention to exploited mistake to tragic accidental mistake, but all around the idea that its origins were related to vaccine testing in Africa conducted by Americans, French, or Belgians I think.

The moon is a spaceship is another pretty good one.

For the last three years, I've been researching the psychological and now neurobiological mechanisms through which we come to believe in things, put absolute faith in certain visions of the world, so reading up about conspiracy theories is a fun hobby that I can still fit in with actual work.

One guy is good for making long thorough debunking Youtube videos on 9/11 and AIDS denialism

http://mylespower.co.uk/911-mini-series/
http://mylespower.co.uk/debunking-house-of-numbers/

They're both very good and amusing even though they are totally homemade jobs. The second one on AIDS denialsim make some claims as well about Foo fighters being linked to the movement so boo-urns...

Do you have anything published? Also have you read The Paranoid Style in American Politics by Richard Hofstadter? Also there is Norman Cohn's The Pursuit of the Millennium: Revolutionary Millenarians and Mystical Anarchists of the Middle Ages which apparently influenced study on modern conspiracy theorists.

A friend of mine who did some work at NASA years ago was confronted at a party by someone who knew with certainty that NASA had blown up the moon during the 1980s and used rockets to drive a replacement moon from the other side of the solar system to replace it. Apparently you can tell because the new one doesn't match up against old pictures.

Watched soaked In Bleach. Way too many inconsistencies for you to just think "yeah it was suicide" and never give it another thought. But it could just be that Courtney is a serial liar and likes messing with peoples heads. Sure in one scene she says she leaked a story that she overdosed or something like that to the press so that Kurt would try get in contact with her. It didn't work

He must have really hated the fucker. I think she is responsible one way or another, that bitch would make anyone wanna blow their own brains out.
