New SP tune released today with Iha, Chamberlin, Schroeder and Corgan.

Decent. I fucking love Chamberlin's drumming. He is the core of the classic sound of that band, without doubt.

Sounds good alright!

Oceania is up there with their best though, just as you're referring to the classic lineup and quality of their material.

Oceania is good alright and I enjoyed the last one with Tommy Lee but Chamberlin is just an extra 20% of enjoyment on whatever Corgan is doing.

I feel that every album after Machina they haven't mixed his vocals well into the music anymore. This is the first song that sounds like his voice fits (except the ropey start). Voice fits but the melody is boring.

Song doesn't have that Pumpkins feel..apart from Chamberlins drumming. It's pretty bland, Corgan can do so much better. You wouldn't even know Iha is on this song.

Iha is fortunate to have such a longlasting career with Pumpkins and A perfect Circle, as you correctly point out you wouldn't even know what his style is.

Chamberlain is a belter of a drummer.

He's unreal. The sense of rhythm and amazing technical ability is just savage. He adds so much to their songs. As a young buck learning drums you'd have nirvana and the like learned quick enough but a pumpkins song required time and effort.

His work on Zeitgeist (underrated album IMO) is fantastic, too. Not too into this new track, but I'll give it a chance to grow on me.

I return to Zeitgeist more than anything else post Adore. It's a fantastic album full of pure bangers, Doomsday Clock in particular.

I have a lot of love for the Zwan album too. His playing on that is unreal.

The 'revolution' line in that one always sullied it for me, but by gum Chamberlin's playing on that is just fantastic.

That entire song is supposedly one single drum take.

Yep, 9 mins. 55 secs. Watch the documentary that came with the album, they talk about his playing/set up a bit:

Jaw. Dropped.

Corgan says more amazing and crucial shit in the first ninety seconds of that thing than is usually contained in entire interviews with most other people.

Decided to give Zeitgeist a spin today after an age... It's not a bad record at all. Chamberlain is one of those players that could back someone reading the telephone book and it'd still be worthwhile.
