Story folks, looking for some advice here, if someone could point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated. I'm helping some mates out by making click tracks for them in advance of studio time. Would creating a MIDI file with all tempo and time signature changes mapped into it be sufficient enough, and be a universal solution regardless of which DAW their engineer will be using? I'm only experienced with using Reaper, and I know that gives an option to merge that data from MIDI file into the project pretty handy.

If you have a Reaper project with all your tempo changes set up then you'll need at least one midi item throughout the duration of the song - simplest is to just have a midi item that does a constant hi-hat on the 1/4 note. Then go File -> Export Project Midi and there's an option to Embed Tempo Map. When this is then imported (should work on any DAW) the tempo changes will be brought back in.
