I've just moved this over to the gig forum - seems a more natural home!

Murphys in Waterford is on the quay, used to be called the 'Hogs Head' years ago if anyone remembers that. Very small and cramped, no stage, playing near the bar etc. Ger Burke books the bands. Open to metal acts.

I do, I used to run gigs in the Hog's Head which is why I was asking ;)
Mailed him and had no response yet.

Try the pub's number (051-852006), Ger's usually there in the evenings. They've installed a new PA apparently... haven't been there recently so I haven't heard it.

Ok clearly promoters in Kilkenny and Waterford are needed (if they exist). Anyone got details?

A friend of mine did a singer/songwriter type show in there recently. As far as I know that is the only type of gigs they put on now. I'll ask her for a contact next time I see her though. As far as I knew Ger isn't involved in any kind of promoting now.

Yeah, I believe they were maybe steering clear of heavier stuff after Filthpact played there? Anyhow, mailed him and another guy involved in doing gigs there and had no response from either.

Pretty sure that band Animator are from Waterford, they might know of a metal friendly venue if there is one. There was allegedly some kind of afternoon metal thing in Dignity (the gay bar down there) last year if my younger brother is to be believed..and he probably isn't

^ There was indeed a metal day/night in Dignity last year. I doubt it will happen again though, as I heard the crowd got a bit rowdy when the curfew was called and the regulars started to come in. A case of metallers not doing themselves any favours unfortunately.

Regarding Murphys, I wouldnt be too surprised if they're steering clear of the heavier stuff. Last time we played there was a 'battle of the bands' type thing (yeah, I know), and we went down pretty well until the Freewheelers, who hated us, interferred and made sure we lost. No big deal to us but the bikers seem to call the shots in there and if you're not covering AC/DC or Motorhead, you might be in trouble. Shame, as there's been some pretty heavy acts in there over the years.
