...this didn't happen, thanks to Belfast City Council deciding that the act was "blasphemous".

Have there been any high profile bans on gigs in this country since then? None certainly spring to mind.

Weren't those cancellations as opposed to councils not allowing the show to go ahead?

I think the National Parents Council had a hand in getting the the Slipknot gig cancelled...I could be wrong though.

No, council for both. The Manson show was supposed to be filmed for a live dvd and all.

I genuinely have no recollection of either being banned. Seems to be a story online that the Slipknot gig didn't sell well, and MCD allowed the parent's pressure group to claim victory in having the gig pulled.

I did find this re. Manson

Quote:
Cancelled - 'A Television Audience With Marilyn Manson' At The Point
News last updated: 29-08-2001

'A Television Audience With Marilyn Manson' due to be filmed at Dublin's Point Theatre on September 5th has unfortunately been cancelled.

The recording for DVD release has been postponed due to the film
production company withdrawing from the project leaving the artist with no other option but to cancel the event.

Full ticket refunds for the recording are available from the point of
purchase.

Marilyn Manson and MCD regret any inconvenience caused.

They must not have sold many tickets for Dublin if they cancelled it just because Belfast got pulled,Maysfield was a small venue compared the The Point.....never even knew they cancelled/got banned until a few days ago when I read this somewhere else lol.

The only other ban I remember was the DUP stopping ELO (without Jeff Lynne lol )playing at Ballymena Showgrounds because it was a Sunday....I remember big Ian Paisley protesting outside Avoneil Leisure Centre the 2 nights Ozzy played there in 86.

Dublin was pulled because it wouldn't have been financially viable for one gig to go ahead.

According to the support act for Dublin (Paranoid Visions): "...the Dublin one was doing well was expected to sell out anyway...I know for first hand fact that the local councillors said they weren't happy with it given the bands stance on royalty during the marching season. And that's a fact. Other gigs on the tour were pulled due to sales and they had no problem saying it!"

Yeah, now the conservatives would let the gig go ahead and the liberals would be freaking out over the exploitation of women and health concerns over the raw meat.

That NPC getting Slipknot banned Story is an urban myth. They don’t have that kind of power, and they’d have no legal basis to do it ether
