Only up to and including Siamese Dream, but again.... really just a fabulous rock band.

Yeah there's no real unifying sound, sure Pearl Jam have always been much closer to classic rock than anything, then you have something like say The Pixies début which was a huge influence on Cobain and recorded by Steve Albini, yet you'd rarely see it mentioned with grunge.

Nirvana were fucking class.

Incredible that so many are dismissing Pearl Jam's punk/grunge credentials when you consider that Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard were part of the grunge scene even before there was one.

Pearl Jam don't sound typically "grunge", that's all anyone has really said.

Alice in Chains definitely the best band from the grunge scene and I say that as a Nirvana fanboy   . Dirt is a harrowing masterpiece, and Cantrell is one of my favourite guitarists. Also Soundgarden had some amazing albums very consistent and musically evolved.

Mudhoney
Melvins
Dinosaur Jr.
Mad Season (for trying to just soldier on)
Helmet
. . . all should get a mention as hugely influential.

3 pages and no one (myself included) has mentioned Green River, Mother Love Bone or the U-Men,.... without whom there'd be no thread whatsoever!

Pretty sure Mother Love Bone were mentioned. A band it took me a long time to come around to, but I really enjoy them now. Wood's previous band (Malfunkshun) were dreadful, however.

Soundgarden really were a good band. Apart from that I struggle now with all the others.

Thought Green River were shit myself.

Paw ain’t getting mentioned enough. Dragline is up there with Ten Dirt etc for me. Lyrical approach much different too.
