Pantera have just 2 albums worth listening to (bar one or two songs).
they didnt sound as generic and americ-core when they started - the rot set in by the 3rd album i reckon. about the same time those copyist americans started to get noticed over here I suppose. |

I agree... I think Doom is good.
Burzum's Det Som Engang Var is highly overrated. Minimal basic Black metal at it's worst. |

Padre, you had your mind made up before seeing them the second time! However, they weren't very good on Saturday night, that's for sure! |

I'd say Cowboys and Vulgar Display, although even Cowboys has a few below average stuff. |

another one- generally, when it comes to modern music anyway - female musicians suck.
I have never been blown away by a musical performance (drums, guitar, songwriting even) by a female musician. It's not helped that males seem to feel the need to blow things out of all proportion with undeserved compliements on musicianship, just cos of being female.
(i used to play bass in a not quite proper metal band, and often had many compliments on my playing despite the fact that I was just competant but trying to stretch my ability with fills and things)
Vocals on the other hand - Agnete M Kirkevaag just..mmmm. vocally.
( I specify modern music, as i have witnessed some classical / traditional musicians who were female and mind blowing) |

GALLHAMMER
Great music from three women (who can hardly play their instruments).
@ Invictus - I guess you're right, but my mind is even more made up now. |

Really? It just doesn't click with me, the only Burzum song I still like to this day is Lost Wisdom, ironically enough from Det Som Engang Var. |

The majority of Pantera fans [atleast in Belfast] were never "die hard", what they would call themselves now, Pantera fans until Dimebag died.
Band tattoo's look shit to everyone else but the person who has it [I have one myself and I like it ] |

You referred to "musical performance" and "songwriting".
Gallhammer blew me away with both of these when I saw them two weeks ago.
I just don't think they should enter an arpeggio playing contest. |

Really? I think Far Beyond Driven blows every other Pantera album out of the water. It's sound is a fresh, almost eerily industrial sounding departure, like it was recorded in some other realm, and the songwriting is much rawer (with a few exceptions).
Controversial...emmm....Slayer are a poor man's Testament? Nah, too obvious. Must. Think. Harder. |

I would think that ability to play instruments would fall under the category of musical performance. I guess that's a matter of opinion. |
