Lent starts this Wednesday, the 25th, and finishs on the 11th April.

I'm going to attempt to give up dairy products during this time to see if any of the health benefits are true. Also, I'm an avid fan of pizza so anyone that knows Mizzoni's pizza in Cork will understand what an arduous 46 days this will be!

So what, if anything, are the rest of ye giving up?

There's a book called "the healing code" by Dermot O'Connor who cured himself of multiple sclerosis by just changing his diet, and one of the things he gave up entirely was dairy. It apparently helps loads of other things like asthma, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I would say I'd give up the drink (seeing as I don't drink that much it's not like it'd be all that hard).. but then again, I just got a litre bottle of JD off my sister... Hmmmm..
Maybe smoking?.. But drinking the above bottle of JD would be miserable without my precious smokes (a very wise man once said "you're nothing without him.. NOTHING!!!!")... Hmmm..

That’s a cool theory, but I wouldn’t try it without plenty of research.

Giving up the drink. That I've more or less quit anyway makes no difference.

Giving up running gigs for ingrates too LOL. EVILE had better be a full house or I'll be grounding the lot of ye.

Gonna give up procrastinating as well. Been meaning to do that for ages now.

Actually, there's a bit of truth to the whole giving up dairy thing. Did it myself about 6 months back, not totally as I'll still have cheese the odd time or something, but for a large part. Used to have tinnitus brought on by bad sinuses which disappeared after a few weeks.

Are you still off the stuff hellvomit?

Might work for some people, but for people, who don’t suffer from any ailments, may not benefit from such a strict diet regime.

Did you find any other benefits from it? Did you feel better overall or what?

went without dairy for ages aswell when I did the whole vegan thing. It does help with some things,I noticed my skin was much better and even thoguh I was still smoking the whole time,I had much less coughs and icky coughs,if that makes sense. Just use soy milk on stuff you miss and take enough supplements and you can give it all up easily.

Plus as a mizzonis addict, giving it up for awhile will prob take at least half a stone off even if you gave up nothing else for the whole 40 days! Smile

Yeah, still don't really take dairy products. Wasn't too difficult of an adjustment, as you can just have feta or goats cheese, goat's milk etc in their place. I gave wheat up along with it, replacing bread/pasta etc with rice, oats etc. Again, wasn't as big an adjustment as you'd think.

Overall it's hard to say as I'm fairly fit anyway, but yeah, seem to have a bit more energy maybe...I wake up quicker in the mornings these days, which is something I was never good at.
