According to The Economist, Ireland is in the worst state of the Eurozone bar Greece.

We're still better off than Hungary and Latvia though!

Lived 14 years of my life abroad, mostly Norway and Ireland (I am breton).

To add to the tips given earlier on this thread, I'd recommend reading about the country and asking questions to those who are / have been living there. You may avoid a lot of trouble by knowing the administrative tricks or just basic difference you should know for survival.
Internet should be a good resource of informations.

Another thing is learn the basis of the language before going there, it'll save you a lot of time. Not telling you about spanish, but let say you're going to Barcelona, catalan is essential for real integration.

Developp your networks as soon as possible, this can be the key to a lot of solutions to potential problems, source of opportunities.
Two of them for you should be the Irish one and the Metal one.

Try to go there to have a look beforehand, always handy.

About work grab any opportunity you might get at first, unless you are skilled in something, fluent in the language... you have to start somewhere (try not to sell your body though).

Oh yeah, Spain is said to recover economicaly sometime in 2010, about Ireland no one knows yet.
