| they're ok like... i'm sure if you fork out enough you'll get a brilliant one, much like you would with any brand. don't care for their hardware though |

| Expensive as fuck they are, like their snares. The big one Tomas Haake uses is like £1000 |

I have the 2300 force series, 8 piece. Great kit for the money. No problem with the stands. However, the pedals are muck including the hi hat stand. So I use Yamaha Pedals and an old Pearl double braced hat stand. Just finished recording on this kit and I have to say I am delighted with the way it sounded pre mix/matering.
I have played the Sonor S Class on a rack before and it is a savage kit altrogether. They have a bargain in Instrumental at the moment for €1300. Bass, 3 rack, one floor and snare . Very little hardware if any, but if I had the money I would go for it. |

Have a Force 3003 (I think) since bout 2005. It's sweet. Great bass drum sound and the hardware is very adjustable. I use Pearl pedals though so can't comment on the Sonor range.
That said though, I'd love a Masters. I can dream. |

| My dream kit would be a SQ2 system kit. Custom made. Tomas Haake and Danny Carey have the best sounding recorded drums in my opinion. |

really? haake's clearly a great drummer but i always thought his drum sound was completely lifeless.
danny carey's drum sound on 10,000 days was a thing of beauty though. the toms on jambi sound amazing, but apparently that was with the kit paiste made for him out of melted cymbals. |

I have a Force 3000 scandinavian birch, natural finish, since jesus... 1997 or so. Same kit and drum sises as this but with original birch snare:
It's the nicest kit I ever owned and I hope I never need to part with it. Great hardware and finish all 'round really. The 3000's were so much better than the ones that came after it. The walnut finish one was really nice too, but the matt of the birch is much nicer. Wish I got to play it more these days... I think when Mapex starting making "sonor" or whatever it was that happened there that the quality dropped.
I'd like a Masters at some stage too...some day maybe. But it'd be in addition to the Sonor. |

aye i played a sonor force 2000-and something for quite a while there when i borrowed it for a week to record with and the owner took around 2 years to come and collect it. it was grand but it wasn't exactly a high-end sonor, and i hated the tom mount system.
upgraded to an rack mounted masters set last year. it was worth the money just for the difference in the quality of the hardware alone. the 6 month wait after ordering it is a bitch though, trying not to drink the several grand you've set aside for it. the only bitch of it is, it's not the sort of kit i'd ever consider gigging or lugging around to practices. |

You could be right about Carey's kit. I just assumed as he plays Sonor live.
I think the drums on "I", Destroy Erase Improve and Obzen are class. Not overly fussed on the Chaosphere sound though. |

i remember reading that he toured with the cast bronze kit in north america, but not outside of the US, because the weight of the fucking thing made it a bitch to transport. it is sonor he's on for the most part, but then, the half of his kit is feckin synth pads and assorted bells and whistles.
there was a thread in the off topic section for everyone posting pics of their kits wasn't there? wonder if we might get it resurrected and bunged in the gear section |
