| I have a Triple Rec and also really curious about the Peavey 6505. I've never got to play on one, which do you guys think might be better for a powerful death/extreme metal tone? |

| ive used a dual and a 6505. id prefer the 6505 but they are very different sounding amps. The 6505 is probably a little bit more organic sounding i guess. The recs have buckets of extra gain though. |

| Had a 5150 for years before buying my Dual rectifier. IMO the recto eats 5150/6505's for breakfast and is far more versatile. The 2 together though sound huge. I agree with Colm that the 5150/6505 is more organic sounding. |

| If i can get someone to buy my Dual recto, i'll be getting a Bogner Uberschall. Best qualities of both these amps. Best rock amp you'll find. The distortion is brutal. |

The 6505! The tone is just... Amazing! Dont buy a rectumfryer over a 6505 they just dont compare, the 6505 blows it away  |

5150 or 6505 over the MESA any day. I think the Mesa rectifier heads are over rated. If your going for a Mesa go with a Mark4 or a Roadking...at least with the Road king you have a wider range of sounds and its a whopper of an amp.
The ENGL Savage is quite a beast too, worth tryin out and its affordable
Bogner or VHT all the way....now if only I could afford em id be doing well lol |

| So it seems pretty split down the middle so far. I think I'll start by changing the tubes as I have not done so yet and it's been about two years since I got it. Any suggestions on the tubes that might work best for a Triple Rec and a brutal sound? |

^^MESA BOOGIE TUBES
A little history to help explain:
90% of tube failures occur because the tube biasing is set too far out, as a cause of the correct setting slowly vibrating out of place at gigs/travelling/etc
Mesa boogie don't have adjustable biasing.
They have a switch: EL34 / 6L6
mesa boogie tubes they are all made and inspected to be within a certain bias requirement which your mesa boogie amp is also set to. So they're always correctly biased.
In other words, if you buy some other brand you need to bias the amp to accept the tubes without putting them under the stress of an incorrect bias setting, which takes from their life, sometimes dramatically..(boom).. and cos its a mesa boogie....you cant change the bias setting
So buy mesa boogie tubes.
****The question now becomes EL34 tubes or 6L6 tubes?****
I've always gone for 6L6's. reason being they're geared towards a harder more powerful tone as opposed to the EL34's smoother, creamier tone which is more geared towards the blues or a bendy hard rock solo.
I woudn't be the best source of inspiration for this question cos ive never used the different tubes in the same amp before. My knowledge is only from different tubes in different amps...so therefor not very conclusive. |

Over all the years doing gigs I have seen a fair number of Engl heads fail and I really do not like the way their cabs are put together for micing up. Great when they work. |

Aye, their cabs are mucky mucky muck...I had a powerball before, kept feeding back, pain in the whole, very temperamental ...even with the gain way way down. Went back to Laney cause I cant afford a Bogner quite yet hahhaa |

Along with the Screamer thats probably the only Engl amp iv played that i havent been very impressed with, find it very hard to get a tone im happy with out of the Powerball. Havent had any problems with the cabs before apart from mic positioning when recording, id say thats due to inexperience on my part though.
Anyone had much experience with the Orange Rockerverb amps? Seriously wanna get playing one of those! |

| Just put Mesa EL34's in my Recto, and my god what a difference. Tighter low end, sexy mids and lots more clarity. Put Groove Tube Gold preamp valves in it too. Took away some of the harsh high end, i almost don't need my tube screamer to drive it. |
