Carwin has a knockout punch.
Kimbo has a knockout punch.
Kimbo is, at the moment, FAR less experienced, HOWEVER, no matter how many times to you shoot to try and mount your opponent, or go for that back-fist, or try for a crescent kick across somebody's face, walking into a knockout punch like Kimbo's is lights out for anyone, and that man can put people down, and no doubt plenty of people have seen it.
As of now, Lesnar would of course whoop Kimbo, however, give the man time. I'm pretty sure after losing his first UFC fight, Lesnar was wrote off as a big joke, being beat by a pretty simple ankle lock, thats a division one NCAA wrestler, beaten by a relatively straightforward submission. Kimbo is slowly realising he's not the tough guy walking the streets anymore winning fights, he knows he is fighting better fighters now.
Let's see if he gets a 3-fight contract first, and if he ends up like Nick Gannon, then we can call him a wash-out. |

It appears to be confirmed from a number of sources that the UFC will be in Ireland in March 2010.
Some confusion in that they all talk about it being on Paddy's day, which is a Wed, so it can't be a full event only a 'Fight Night'.
Hopefully they mean around the Paddy's Festival week.

I checked the O2 site but only Elvis is booked for next March, I kid you not! |

Who wrote him off as a joke after his first fight?
The same fight he totally dominated and would have won if not for an (understandable) rookie mistake, which was brought on by a way bigger mistake on the refs part.
Sorry lad but you're talking outta your arse. Sure fuckin Butterbean would knock ya out too if you walked into one of his punches, doesn't mean he would stand any sort of realistic chance of ever doin it. |

Referee mistake? Strikes to the back of the head are illegal in cage fighting, for a reason, and it was a clear strike to the back, replays prove that. It is stupidly dangerous to strike there. It's like saying Jackson's infamous powerbomb knockout was justifiable.
If Lesnar "dominated" that fight, he would have firstly not made such a careless error, and second, have had the sense NOT to go in all guns blazing against a ground specialist, surely being a wrestling pro should have meant he was thinking about that even a fraction, but no, "hammerfist, hammerfist, hammerfist, stand up WHOOPS tap out". And rookie mistake? Again, he was a div. one NCAA wrestler, Lesnar is far from a rookie, and should have known better in that fight, he will know about sweeps, underhooks, lock-ups and all other factors incorporated in his style and some of BJJ. He simply didn't think. Look at him v Couture, THAT was him thinking about what he was doing, which resulted in a majority stand-off between two wrestlers, and him eventually getting the title.
At this rate we might as well go back to UFC 1, fuck the gloves out the window, bring back open-weight bouts and let everyone just focus on one style again... |

christ there's more shite talk here than even im used to. Your being entertained and you have nothing invested in the sport, you sound like soccer fans for fuck sake.If your not enjoying it then dont watch it, controversy keeps it fresh, and lest we forget this is a sport where the objective is to kick the fuck out of your opponent, toys will fly.
As for ufc 1 , Gracie V Shamrock, classic for more than just the fight, the confusion afterwards is paramount. I actually missed a convention my club was at with Master Royce Gracie as the fuckin instructor, doesnt get much gayer than missing that, possible that he'll be back in september though.. |

Talkin more shite there Connor lad, did ya even watch the fight?
Mir basically turned his head into the punch, even Dana white said that ref has messed up more fights than anyone.
And yeah he was/is a rookie, that was his 2nd ever MMA fight. Its fairly different than amateur wresting.
And I siad he dominated, not that he won the thing. I said that cos he was beating the piss outta Mir until he made his 'rookie' mistake.
Jaysus man watch the fight again! |

I don't know who exactly you aimed that at, but we are debating a few things and analyzing the fights. Y'know as fans and its a message board, y'now for discussion.
I invest my time and interest, thats enough, if ya have nothing to add except a lame attempt to criticise what you see here then either steer the conversation to something you would prefer or keep out. |

Mir had turned his head in to prevent getting smacked across his face (it still ended up in a bad state regardless), the ref COULD have opted for a vote that Mir wasn't able to intelligently defend himself, which would have been a T.K.O. in favour of Lesnar (pretty much how he won the recent one), but he didn't as he seen an illegal strike. Regardless, it was more than just one strike, I counted about 4, and if Mario was a crap referee, he wouldn't be employed in such a sport, for safety's sake. When someone performs a spinning back-fist, their opponent doesn't strike that back of their head given the chance, as that would be disallowed, regardless of the likelihood of it knocking the person out.
Lesnar is not a rookie in my eyes. He has done his homework, he is trained in wrestling, he knows how to punch, he just needs work on his technical ground game (though smothering Mir chest-to-chest canceled out anything he basically tried to do, weight again being useful). He beat his first ever opponent in K-1 by submission to strikes! And he also beat a former olympic wrestler, with the same style of training, who is a veteran of the UFC, for the title! Granted he just game from the stage-show WWE, that doesn't mean all those college days and beyond of wrestling fell to the wayside for him?
And bossisdead, as AOD said, its a debate on a particular fighter and a selection of fights, it IS a UFC thread, and it's just a debate, I've invested money into event programs, buying merch, buying tickets to go see it live, and paying for P.P.V. If I wish to bitch, I've every right to. And as someone who was active for a decade (and more to come) in martial arts training, it's an interest of mine. If I want to critique I'd like to think I've did enough to give at least an intelligent opinion or guess on some aspects. |
