Also looking for a bit of advice, have started going to the gym recently but not that interested in weights etc., however would like to gain a bit of extra weight. Anyone recommend any decent supplements that preferably don't taste like shit?

there not badly priced for a linear bearing system therack is around £1500

ive added the lat machine and adjustable bench with leg extension and preacher curl.

Pure deadly unit just by twisting the bar i can lock the barbell in if u cant even do that the safety spotters with hold the bar.I can't say enough good things about this rack system, best piece of equipment that i have ever bought ,Highly Recommended.

Smith machines are class for individual workouts, much prefer free weights for those exercises. Deadly for getting started on bench and squat, but nothing beats that free weight feeeeeeeeeeeeeling.

I started back yesterday to the weights, not doing tooooo bad. It's a terrible thing to see yourself breaking a sweat while benching 40kgs...and yes, that's the bar as well Sad

Bro im not really into the body building power lifting training so i train reasonably light and use proper strict form.So u say 40 kg's? i would way rather lift lighter with more control and proper form than push heavy for small small reps.my workouts are all about fitness and tightening up im not bothered about musclemass, anyways i run more than lift.

ps i get way better results when i know my limitations and what i realistically set my goals for .Also i don't see the point lifting heavy for a few reps? much rather use a controled weight for a good number of reps go for the burn and better pump.

woahhhh i didn't mention your routine man...relaxxx

i'm just saying smith machines have their uses. as for the 40 kgs, it's pathetic for me.. even for fitness you should be able to bench your own body weight

i dont care if you tie ropes to that bad boy and use it as a sex tool with the missus.

I HATE smith machines! I only use them for shrugs 'cos I go very heavy (eg did 270kg for 6 last week). Its just safer and easier to use....but if you find them useful then that's deadly. However, the gym is not always full of posers taking up machines. Most bodybuilders use free weights anyway as they are far superior. I used to hate gyms now I can't see myself training at home again.

As for protein take Optimum Nutrition Whey (www.irish-lifting.com). It just tastes the nicest in my opinioon but to be honest all of the top brands are the same. As for creatine, it would nearly be a waste of money for you if you are not lifting. Protein and diet alone should be sufficient. Also, if you are not really lifting and want to put on weight you may be wasting time. Can anyone think of a way to do this excluding plyometrics?

Yeah man, nobody mentinotioned form. Lots of people bench 100kg+ with perfect form. Also doing low reps has many advantages including getting much stronger. Just because you have no interest in powerlifting or bodybuiling does not mean that low reps have no advantages! You also imply that bodybuilders and powerlifters don't use strict form....that's just silly.

Anyway, enough of a rant.hahaha

Starting back at this now come Monday, using the rest of the week to fix up what Im eating/drinking.

Ive been out months now, had a drunken fall at the start of November that had me hobbling all through Christmas and not able to use the knee at all (that and I got very lazy), only starting to get better now, so I figure work on the top half for a week or so.

Wouldnt be too pissed at 40kgs, especially if you're doing 3 sets of 10 or 12, thats what I started on last year, probably what I will go back to this time. That way I hope not to require a spotter, the guys in my gym seem to think spotting means barbell curls for them.

I like some machines in the gym, I would use them before I go onto free weights (for some things) as they help you get correct form, where as if you just jump in on free weights you would be inclined to go with what feels more comfortable

Its just typical that i decide to start thinking healthy the week the rugby season kicks off.

Yeah, I hate when people curly the bar then spotting. I only get people I trust to spot while squatting though. I usually just tell them not to touch the bar until it touches my chest. Invariably, people jusm in too soon but since you told them to wait too long it roughly works out at the right time. another tip is to ask the smallest dude you can find. you don't need to be stong to spot. Fuck it, I even use my girlfriend sometimes if she is in the gym at the same time and I'm training alone!

Out of genuine curiosity, as it's something that popped into my head the other day - how many of the people in this thread have girlfriends?

I do.....and so do most people that train. Why?

Or are you going to go down the route of "you like training and men who pose blah blah blah"???!

Girlfriends are for faggots

Dave, would you mind resizing that avatar? Those of us who have to use old IE in work have to view it as half the size of the page, and the sight of your oddly-shaped back in bmp. format is upsetting my employers. Same to you Mark, yours is giving me epilepsy. The unwanted kind
