With some of the song titles they've leaked, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a joke. Hopefully, anyway. |

I'm starting to get the feeling that this will be the album where Mastodons legacy falls to pieces.
The fact that there wont be any concept or story may suggest the band have shot all their bolts by now. Whatever about the album cover which might mean feck all in regards musical quality it does suggest they might settle for anything.
The care and thought behind the last few album covers is replaced with something that might have just looked cool. And perhaps that makes it a true representation of the music.
Another thing about them lately is that they are really giving Kiss a run for their money when it comes to putting your logo on assorted garbage just to make a few bucks. Everything from sunglasses to stiletto hair combs.
But this could all be a joke. But my gut tells me otherwise. If the track released earlier in the month, which was a leftover from CTS, is indicative of what is to come then I think my prediction will be true.
Sure it was heavy and it sounded like Mastodon but it lacked anything to hook you in, little in the way of a memorable twist.
So whatever about the cover or the song titles, so long as the keep the music interesting I'll be happy but the omens aren't so good to my eyes. |

I stopped giving a fuck about Mastodon a while back, but I actually like this cover. It stands out a whole lot more than the generic metal record sleeve, which is why I reckon they use it.
That and the fact that it looks like a Melvins record - a band they clearly have a massive hard on for. |

| So what's wrong with it. Not enough dragons or something is it? It's better than that fucking Arch Enemy cover, where the lead robo-zombie has a sweet cleavage. Pathetic! |

| I really liked the continuity of the artwork from the last few albums, personally. |

ha ha, agreed entirely. The robot on the banner pic has a baleful expression, either from the banality of evil in robo zombie anarcho-combat or the worthlessness of the new AE.
i think it's a hilariously daft cover, remind s me of Mars Volta for some reason. Stands out if nothing else. |

It looks like a cover QOTSA/The Mars Volta would release.
Hope they don't fuck up a flawless back catalogue with this. |

y'know Priest's Vengeance and Defenders were my initial thoughts too! ...as long as the music is great i'm not worried, BUT Mastodon did have an almost classic album cover thing going on ALA maiden for the first 7 albums with derek riggs...
