Khan is far faster than him, a lot better technically, and seems to have finally learned that his jaw needs to be tucked. So I don't think McCloskey has the power to really bother him there. I also don't think McCloskey slick style really suits a long-armed quick-hander like Khan.
That said, McCloskey is far better in the close - I've seen him really hurt people with body shots, and Khan is far from unhittable. Then again, neither is McCloskey - keeps his hands too low for me.
It's Khan's fight to lose really, but if he lets McCloskey control the ring he could make himself look bad. |

Any opinions on this?
I'm going myself in anticipation that it will be a great event. Casey taking a huge gamble on paper, but i'm hoping his team see a way to victory against the awesome guilermo. Shame RTE won't be showing it.
I think it has the potential to be a very short fight.
Rigondeaux is simply not going to let Casey get in his pocket, he showed against Cordoba he's not adverse to simply backing around the ring to avoid letting his opponent inside. He's miles ahead technically and has a very mean hook, and I fear Casey may end up chasing him round a ring eating shots when Rigo feels he can get away with throwing them, which would be boring.
That said, Casey always has a puncher's chance, but I think Rigo actually may hit harder. |

| Never got a chance to see casey fight, every time he was on da telly i was out on the night or something. Is he better than Dunne? Heard he was a brawler. |

Eh, completely different styles. A harsher man than I would say that Casey's a fighter wheras Dunne was a boxer.
I think Dunne's a bit hard to rate really. He had the number over any other Irishman during his amateur years, and looked at ease at the International and Euro belt levels. But he never avenged his losses, and looked a little out of place at world level (his last fight aside, his win against Cordoba owed a lot to how gassed/ill prepared his opponent was).
Casey's definitely a brawler though. Pressure fighter, likes to get inside and throw hard to the body. |

Good night of boxing last night. Mike Perez in Prizefighter was an unstoppable force sporting the green, white and gold. 8 inches shorter than Fields but only took him 42 secs to sort it out. Definitely one to watch. The Cork accent on him is cuntish though
Thought that Manny v Mosley was boring as all fuck especially after watching Arce v Vazquez on the undercard. Absolutely quality scrape. Not a huge fan of Arce's gung ho style but it makes for entertaining watching and it certainly did that last night. Best fight I've seen in a while.
Can watch it here. |

Mosley's done, and he knows it, he's just cashing in now and it's a real shame to watch. He showed absolutely nothing against Manny Pac, didn't even try to throw a right and looked to clinch whenever possible.
I can't begrudge him taking the money though, the guy was an absolute wrecking machine in his prime and destroyed the lightweight division; while some of his later victories might be a bit tarnished, his first fight against De La Hoya was a bona fide classic.
The so-called pound-for-pound "big names" are getting very stale now. Both Floyd and Manny cherry-pick their opponents at times that suit them (and Manny employs catchweights to great effect, which I don't particularly like). Credit still to Manny for putting Shane away, but as with the Floyd vs Mosley fight, this is a matchup that should've taken place 3-5yrs ago. |

I was surprised that Mosley went the distance to be honest, some feat for a man pushing forty. I thought he was gone after going down in the third but Manny never really opened up. It all seemed quite pedestrian especially after the battle that went on before them.
Would be great to see Mayweather v Pacquiao but going on last night's performance I think Mayweather would prob take him. He just didn't have the flare he's had in previous fights. |

I've always had Floyd down as the winner of that fight if it ever happens. Manny, when he's on, is great to watch, a real flurry of fists and over time, he's improved his footwork, defence, power and combinations rather than just relying on sheer volume of punches to overwhelm his opponents.
But Floyd's faster, bigger, his footwork makes Manny look amateur, and if Manny lands even 1/50th of his usual punches he'll be doing well against Mayweather. He'll be eating a crisp, straight jab for every punch he misses with too (this is something Mosley refused to do - Shane's always thrown wide, hooking rights, but Pac is vulnerable to the straight jab). I don't think Floyd would knock him out or TKO him though - Mosley fight aside, Mayweather hasn't tried to do that since his youthful days (at featherweight & lightweight, where he defined dominance), and I think he'd have to respect Manny's power too much to open the fight up like that. I'd see Floyd by UD after putting up his usual boxing clinic.
In all honesty though, I think there's more chance of Manny giving Juan Manuel Marquez his wish and a third fight. Which could be very interesting, I'd actually say that JMM has had Manny's number in the past (even if the official scorecards didn't agree), and I'd certainly say he'd be in with a big shout of beating him. |

| RIP indeed, one of the best. For some bizarre reason I watched the awful Ali biopic with the Fresh Prince in it in tribute to Smokin' Joe, not the best option. Instead I'm going to train extra hard tomorrow night as a proper tribute! |

The death of Smokin' Joe has resurrected this thread.
R.I.P Joe... a true legend!
Pacquio v Marquez this Saturday... I think abother predictable Pac Man win is on the cards.
I can't wait for the Cotto Margarito rematch next month... it's gonna be savage! Hope Cotto knocks the bollix out of that cheater!! |
