Was well mangled by Dynamo time! The faces of those 3 girls when I went to take their imaginary cases from them. What the fuck was going on in my mind? In and out of consciousness at that point!
You should have stuck around for Stormrider - decent covers of Angelwitch, Iron Maiden's Wasted Years, Motorhead, Forbidden, Slayer, etc. Went on til almost 3am in the end. |

After a few pints with Ally and Dennis in O'Sheas we made it in on time for the start.
Mortal Sin: to my shame have to admit I wasn't overly familiar with them. Fair bit of an Overkill vibe at times. Good start.
Heathen: much better than at the Killfest tour with Overkill and Destruction earlier this year, mainly due to it being an old school set.
Asphyx: The Rack. Need I say more. Only downside for me was not being able to understand what Van Drunen was saying between tracks....I don't understand Dutch!
Mar de Grises: headed down to the second stage for a quick look and promptly headed back to the main stage. Enough said.
Destruction: another great set, they even mentioned being disappointed that there were no Irish/UK dates on the tour.
Desaster: probably the best I've seen them and without doubt one of the highlights of the first day. Pity they were on the second stage but that probably helped the atmosphere.
Exodus: way more classics/oldies than the last few times I've seen them and I thought Dukes did well.
Nifelheim: very enjoyable but the beers were kicking in at that stage
Skipped Sepultura and Alestorm on the main stage for Desaster and Nifelheim. Good fun in the Dynamo afterwards. Bliksem were crap but I enjoyed taking a few close-ups of the singer The Rotted were ok but the day had taken it's toll.
Earlier start on the Saturday but decent lie-in which was needed.
Milking the Goatmachine: I thought joke bands were meant to be funny :Bunch of mongos playing shit music
Tankard: good set, great crowd reaction. Better than average overall.
Marduk: jesus they were loud. Went to the front to take a few photos and nearly had my head blown off. I've seen them a few times but am not overly familiar with their stuff, enjoyable nonetheless.
Triptykon: unbelievable. Really tight performance. Highlight of the weekend. Heavy, heavy, heavy.
Valkyrja: saw them with Gorgoroth/Vader so headed to second stage and watched the whole set. Very impressive again. Meaning I missed most of....
Kataklysm: were ok but glad I watched Valkyrja's set.
God Dethroned: another highlight of the day. Brilliant performance/set. Second stage area was rammed. They seemed emotional at the end, pity they didn't get as much recognition before they called it a day.
Morbid Angel: surprise of the fest. Vincent must have said old school 10 times Didn't say new shit at all. Whatever about the new album they were tight as fuck live and the setlist was great.
Katatonia: not really my cuppa and found them boring enough. Arkadi looked like he orgasmed when they finished off with a couple of oldies
Ended up nattering outside and with a 4am train to get missed Necrophobic. Great weekend overall, well ahead of last year.
On the booze I brought most of it in from a supermarket closeby. 80c for 500ml vs €4 for 400ml in the venue. Worth the risk of trying to smuggle it in and never once out of 4 or 5 times was I checked.
Good catching up with Ally, Dennis, Gazz and Dave. And looking at Arkadi's off stage photos Already looking forward to next year. |

God Dethroned were indeed excellent! How loud was their set in the small room?! It was like sardines in there though - cant understand why they werent on the main stage for their final performance in the Netherlands.
Best I've seen Marduk too - intense and loud as fuck - great stuff.
Still dont know how you got all those cans in without any of them noticing Dave! Down the hood and all! Brilliant! |
