| Enjoy folks. Dont miss Sanctuary. I saw them on weds in the US and they were brilliant. Dane's voice was incredible. Played for almost an hour and a half as well. |

Sounds great Dave! Bus to airport leaving in 3 hours - see you all there for 150 beers or so. |

Heading to the US, but not Würzburg?!
Either way, too bad you can't make it this weekend, Dave!
I didn't go to the US to see them Dennis, I got lucky that they happened to be playing when I was there. Would love to be in Wurzburg tomorrow, enjoy! |

How was this?
Heard Pagan Altar had a pretty poor gig? |

Yeah not a great night for Pagan Altar - equipment problems mainly with the drums. When they started into Samhein, they had to restart it as the drummer was drumming the wrong track or something. Because of all this, they had to cut their set due to running out of time. Couple of new ones aired last night.
Left home at 1am and travelled through the night to eventually arrive in Wuerzburg at 12pm. When arriving at the Posthalle there wasn't many about outside so got the ticket sorted in no time without any queues. Couldn't believe the crowd that was already inside to see Asgard. Fairly packed at that stage! Dont know any of their material but they were pretty good and got a great reception. Next up was Dark Forest and despite Will suffering from a throat infection they rattled through a great set.
Left at this point to get checked into the hotel and neck a bottle of wine - so missed Tyranex. Arrived back for the 2nd half of Sinister Realm's set. OK from what I heard of them.
RAM next and they were excellent - first time seeing them live and they lived up to what I had heard from others - great performance. Missed a bit of of start of The Sanity Days due to beer garden banter and chat but arrived to hear Welcome to Dying. Great to hear that one live. Steve Grimmett was on good form - See You In Hell was another highlight.
Satan were my band of the day - savage again. The Court in the Act material is class. Relentless and a new one aired sounded great too. Heir Apparent were next up - spent some of their set browsing the merch stands then watched from the side. Great cover and singalong of Heaven and Hell.
By the time Sanctuary came on, it was almost 40 hours since I had sleep and I was beginning to die on my feet after drinking many beers, with the odd brandy & coke thrown in. They were worth waiting for - Dane's vocals were top notch - superb show! Great end to a great day! |

I seem to recall Pagan Altar having sound problems the last time they played Wurzburg (HoD 2 or 3) and having the set cut short there as well. Pity. Anyone make it to the jungle |

They had a string break at HODII which led to a shorter set.
I'm not surprised to be honest. The seemingly constant revolving door of Bassists and second guitarists at this stage is getting a bit silly - Its a wonder they can keep it together at all at the moment.
They should really concentrate on getting the line-up stabilized, tight and rehearsed before committing to any further shows…and get the new album recorded.
Would have loved to have made it to this. Wurzburg sessions are always great banter. Cannot wait for the next excuse to make it over! |

I see the new line up in London and there pretty tight. I hear the problems at Metal Assault was the sound guy was playing another cd of a band via the stage monitors and that's all the band could hear and playing was mainly guess work on stage for them. Maybe they should have walked off but then there set was only about 40 minutes anyway with the drum equipment problem. |

Yep, that seems to be the case. Terry explained on the Pagan Altar forum:
Quote: We kept telling them that there was other music belting through our monitors but they didn't do anything about it. They apologised later and said that the music they play between bands had been left on and when we asked for the drum monitor to be turned up they turned the background music up full blast all the people in the front could hear it as well! Try playing your stereo loud and then sing a completely different song over the top of it and you'll get some idea of what it was like!
Shit buzz. |

Good fest. But I was stood at the front, and I couldn't hear any music been played through the monitors? Thought the band lacked stage presence, looked disinterested, and were sloppy. Seen them far better a few years ago. Time to pack in and become a studio project only, the singer must be what? 75 now?
Ram were awesome, Satan also. |

| Without sounding like the biased PAGAN ALTAR fanboy that I am anyway, it was apparent that the band had serious problems going on soundwise from the get go, period! Breaking snare drums and additional fuck ups by the sound engineer surely didn't help matters either, simples! Given the circumstances they did their best, but shit like that gets to you no matter what, being playing wise, regarding stage presence and whatnot. Just like Barry posted Shit Buzz indeed! Other than that, it was a great day out, just as expected, talking shite and drinking plenty of great (at the "Haus...") or atrocious ("Posthalle") beerz. Musically as a whole I haven't been completely knocked out this time time around, although SATAN were fucking amazing!! Thought SINISTER REALM & DARK FOREST were OK, but did nothing more for me. Not being the biggest SANCTUARY fan on the planet surely helped fucking off after 1/3 of their set for some premature external post-festival piss-up then. Now bring on the next "Hammer Of Doom" installment!! |
