Well, that aul buck Varg is at it again. New album coming out in May called Umskiptar (Metamorphoses). I'm looking forward to this, I really liked Fallen and actually preferred it to Belus. Still haven’t got around to getting that re-recordings album yet though.

Full lowdown as usual here:

Savage news! If it's anything like the last 2 in terms of quality I won't be disappointed in the slightest.

Shocked this is great, another one, which no-doubt will be as excellent as the last two. haven't read his shite shpiell from burzum.org in a while, mite do now. also, out of caution never got around to hearing that recent rerecording.

Fairly pumping the albums out these days. Is it a case of being cynical and thinking he's putting out as much as possible while post prison release notoriety is still high or is it more of a return to the classic 60's/70's/80's style of an album release a year? When you think about those decades and the classics that were released in such a short space of time (Priest, Sabbath, Purple, Zeps etc) is the current norm of ridiculous waits of 3-4 years (Mourning Beloveth, Primordial I'm looking at you Mad ) just that - ridiculous - or is releasing regular stuff only a creatively bankrupt cash-in?

Thats how I often think of nowadays Burzum anyway, albeit I think last 2 (not counting the re-recordings) were both more than solid 7/10 or 8/10 albums.

I have never listened to Burzum in my life, nor ever even felt inclined to do so but I'd nearly buy it for that cover alone. Might just have to see what all the fuss is about finally.

The artwork is class alright. I haven't completely warmed completely to Fallen, it is good but not great, I really like Belus though. Looking forward to hearing this.

Sure he was prolific with the output back before he went to prison anyway. The first four were all recorded in the space of a 2 year period or something.

I get your point, but to apply it to the named bands - Primordial and Mourning Beloveth - is unfair. Sure, I'd love to see MB get the thumb out as it's been too long since 'Disease', but Sabbath, Deep Purple etc. were all "professional" bands. You might more reasonably apply it to the likes of Metallica or Slayer, and other bands able to live comfortably off the music, but I'd imagine that now, more so than in the past, touring is just so much more lucrative than releasing albums that it wouldn't even cross their minds to spend a few months every year in the studio when they could more profitably spend it out on the road.

Excellent news. Last two were top drawer in my opinion and the re-recordings were very good too. Personally don't care what his motivations are as long as he releases quality material. However, call me naive or whatever, but if he was just releasing albums cynically to cash in I don't think they would be of the quality they have been. He was pretty productive in the early days as has been said. If he is not genuinely creatively inspired that will be reflected in the material in my opinion. So unless the next album is shite I think he is just a prolific artist.

Ah yeah I know that and understand they are not full time pro bands, just mentioned them as they are two of my favourites and wish stuff was coming out on a more regular basis. No sly dig intended.

Anyway, this new Burzum - hope its at least as good as Fallen, which was decent but not all that invigorating. If he has had it recorded since Sep 2011 we can prob assume that the next next one is already half done by this stage Laughing

I absolutely love Fallen and it gets regular spins. His new folky direction works a treat as far as I'm concerned. There are hints of Loits on Fallen in terms of the clean sung melodies that are very pleasing to these ears. Looking forward to the new one. I wonder if he listens to much BM these days or what his musical interests are as he is still very much on the ball with the new Burzum stuff. Artwork is decent enough too.
