Heard about this on the radio this morning.
Is it just ESB or are Airtricity and Bord Gais going to go the same route? |

It's standard practice within contracts between industrial, high volume, users and the supplier. I've had to do deals with electricity suppliers in Ireland and Poland over the years and this has always been a clause within any contract. However, with regard to domestic customers it might seem a tad mean, but it is probably included within the terms and conditions of supply.

| It just seems totally crazy - standard practice or not within industry - to penalise customers for not using enough. Completely unjustifiable in my opinion. Is there an ongoing cost at ESB's end to service low-usage customers? Is this link not giving both sides of the story. If it's just a way of spreading the pain, they are completely fucked. Seems innately anti-social to punish people for conserving or using less. I just think it's the maddest thing I've heard in a while. |

| You have to admire their gall though. People are watching their usage so ESB's turnover is dropping so then this. Hopefully someone will find a way to challenge this legally but I doubt it. Competition will be the only way to get them to change. |

| Heard about that this morning, absolutely outrageous. There is a financial regulator in this country, right? How is this allowed to happen? |

| GOLIATH is correct, this will not affect anyone who actually lives in a house. If someone has multiple properties with a power connection that is not being used but is usable then a standard charge for having the service connected and usable is more than understandable. It's actually quite reasonable |

Yup, its in the t's and c's. Because i have fibre broadband i have to have a bt line, however i never use the land line for calls at all...only found out when a charge started appearing on my bill. When i enquired i was informed i had made less than 5 calls and the charge was a penalty. Fucking idiots and their ridiculous phone monoploy in the north. |
