The Real Thing is a great album, I agree though, it hasn't aged well. It's their most "Metal" album too.

Angel Dust is their best record by a mile, 20 years later I'm still listening to it regularly.

King For A Day and Album of the year both did nothing for me upon their initial release, both are growers though. King For a Day is a close second to Angel Dust for me. Fantastic stuff on that album.

If you've enjoyed them all I'd go back and try Introduce Yourself and Finally We Care A Lot. Introduce yourself is a great record, it might take a while to get used to Chuck's vocals though!

Really wish Jim Martin was playing with em again. TRT is still savage! What a performance they put on at download 2 years ago I think it was

One of my fave bands of all time. Cant fault them at all, but they are entirely marmite. You love em or just dont get em! I know plenty of people who cant get their heads around FNM. To me they are just amazing. How many bands have the balls to include crazy before its time math rock (Malpractice), with country songs (RV), metal (Jizzlobber) and ballads (Easy) on an album? Angel Dust is a remarkable album and should be considered one of the best alternative albums of all time.

One regret of mine is never having seen FNM live. Angel Dust would be one of my favourite albums and it never grows tiresome. Look up the youtube video of them on TFI Friday doing Ashes To Ashes, Patton totally loses it all the while wearing a suit, which just adds to the mentalness of his performance. The Real Thing had the songs but I don't think Patton had fully developed as a vocalist at that point.

Wish they were still on the go.

Anyone ever check out Peeping Tom by the way? One of Patton's many side projects, some good stuff on there if you're missing FNM.

King for a Day is pretty much untouchable as far as i'm concerned.FNM never did anything bad or mediocre with Patton, and i loved the Real Thing when it came out,but King for a Day is the one...also a big fan of the Tomahawk stuff,1st album in particular.

Don't forget that Easy was only tacked onto the arse of the album long after its original release in a shameless record company money making ploy. It's not actually part of that album in any artistic sense, just shamelessly added on once the single was a success.

Dont really like the first album but Real Thing and Angel Dust are flawless. I like the two that came after them as well, though less so. Gentle Art of Making Enemies is a cracker....seeing them two years ago in the olympia was incredible, delighted to have seen them.

I liked all their stuff up until King For A Day, just couldn't get into that at the time. Maybe I need to go back & listen to it again. The Real Thing & Angel Dust was where it was at for me. Saw them here four times between 1990 & '93. They could be hit & miss live tbh, even within the same gig. That was part of their appeal though, you were never quite sure what you were going to get with them live back then.

In retrospect,I've grown to absolutely hate The Real Thing over the years. Everything else I love though, Angel Dust is still an incredible record particularly. One of the best live bands ever too.

Yeah you are right, but my point is the mindfuck of all these different genres and styles into one album

probably the greatest band of all time Smile everytime I saw them they delievered in spades...untouchable live....all the records are amasing but the early ones would have a greater spot in my heart due to nostalgia reasons...if you can track down the live bootleg "Phoenix Rising" do as it's the best quality bootleg I've every heard with a track list of all the classics up to the '92/'93 era.....

Great band, Angel Dust being a particular highlight.

Every album has superb songs, they just sadly have anywhere between a little and a lot of filler there. King for a Day has at least 4 songs that simply should not be there. AOTY also has a fair amount of crap on it but the good stuff on it is fuckin great, this is the case with them a lot imo
