Think they've a good chance of reaching the final after the changes Prandelli has made there (only 4-5 players 30 years+) and he's just fixed a good few things since Donadoni's mess up. I know their qualifying group was weak but they only conceded two goals - no other team did that. Team also has seven Juventus players which is no bad thing considering the season they've just had. Last time they had a season close to that was 05-06 where they lost just one game.
I dunno, most are seemingly overlooking this team for whatever reason.
But the Italian league ain't what it used to be. The English media says so.
They wouldn't possibly be biased. No way. |

I'll go with Spain to win the group and Ireland runner up after grabbin a point off Croatia and beating Italy. Then a showdown with the English in the quarters
Germany to win it out though, I'd be very surprised if they didn't |

Off to watch the Dutch train in a few hours, I'll let yous know the form!
Fancy the Germans to win it, or the Dutch.
Wouldn't write off the French or Italians this year either.

| I'm moving to Kiev next Thursday, after 4 years in Poland, I've been to most of the stadiums at this stage, Posnan, Wroclaw, Krakow, Warsawa, L'vv and Kiev, as we supplied a lot of material during construction. If the Irish do get out and end up in Ukraine drop me a line, I might be able to help with finding digs for ye. I had tickets for the opening game in Warsawa but gave them away, fuck all interest in the game. |

What would be the typical weather in Poland in June? Scalding during the day and baltic at night, or just totally unpredictable like Ireland? I'm doing the full 3 group games. Any metal pubs to recommend in Poznan and Gdansk? |

Two main bets for me this year..
(Head) Germany - Spain final @ 8/1
(Heart) Germany - Italy final @ 25/1
Can't see Germany not making the final this year. Hate the fact that we are in the same group as my perennials Italy. I'd happily sacrifice that first bet if we can both get out of the group. As someone mentioned earlier, good Juve spine to the team this year, a team who have just completed an invincible Serie A season. Ballotelli is gonna have to play though and keep his word about not getting sent off. Might look for a price on that to soften the blow |

What's everyone make of the Kevin Foley fiasco?
Personally I think the media are making a mountain out of a molehill. I nearly spat out my soda on the way home when I heard a reporter on the radio describe it as "Saipan 2012" Give me a fuckin' break.
In Foley's defence, he is a model pro. Has been patient throughout his international career and has always been available for selection so I know it must me very tough on the lad and do feel for him in that respect......
However, Trap has to be capable of making the tough decisions and do what's best for the team. The media have made it out that there's a big rift in the camp over this. Hardly so, Richard Dunne said last night that this is what the manager is there for, to make the tough calls.
What makes the whole episode so ridiculous is if you look at Kev's record for Ireland. He has played 8 games in 6 years. Largely sub appearances and and in friendly games. He has 1 competitive 90minute appearance under his belt. Hardly comparitive with sending Roy Keane home, or an equivilant these days (Shay Given etc). Those young enough to remember will recall Big Jack sent home Gary Waddock in a fairly similar circumstance before Italia '90. Them's just the breaks...... |

I feel sorry for Foley, and sorry for us that he has been replaced by Paul McShane, a man who gives most Irish fans heart palpatations as soon as he sets foot on the pitch.
Replacing Keith Fahey with Paul Green is quite baffling also. The latter is a complete non-entity. Surely Hoolohan, Pilkington or Coleman are better options to replace a creative player like Fahey? I'm trying to just put up and shut up as regards Trappatoni's selection decisions, he has got us this far after all, but jaysus a bit of clarity. Paul Green has no club. He is nowhere near good enough to represent Ireland, especially when there are better options.
I'm looking forward to the Spain game, even though it's hard to see us getting a result. The auld craic with Spanish and Irish amigos here will be mighty.
I have a sneaky feeling England might do something in this tournament. Please jaysus let me be wrong, but expectations are so low it might have a positive effect on them. |

Why is everyone so concerned with who's not in the team? Fairly ridiculous attitude, oh if we had x we would have done much better, bollocks. Ireland has always been about 11 players putting in a shift. We did just fine without whingebag Roy Keane in 2012.
A few years ago it was Andy Reid and Stephen Ireland. Now there's a few new heads to bemoan the non-participation of.
I will agree that Paul Green is a baffling choice, but the reality is he is well down the pecking order, we'd have to be seriously unlucky for him to feature in any serious capacity. McShane on the other hand is more likely to feature at some point. I think it's safe to say he has made a few bad errors in his time in the green shirt, but I think far too much has been made of those. A lot of the time he does a solid job, he was totally acceptable against Bosnia at the weekend, put in some good tackles.
I just find it strange that a manager that has navigated us through a tough group to the European Championships be criticised for not including players that haven't appeared internationally yet or for the sending home of a fringe player.
Would you guys prefer these exciting players to be in the team, for us to have a go but ultimately be beaten by superior teams? Another summer not taking part in a major tournament? |

It must be heartbreaking for Foley to be left out at the last minute, and as a Sunderland and Ireland fan I've got no particular love for Paul McShane, but let's face it, this is a pretty marginal decision. It's not like we still have Paul McGrath in his prime and Trap selected McShane ahead of him.
Trap has worked miracles to get us to the tournament and, while I wouldn't agree with everything he does, I'm going to trust him on this too. Ours is a tough group even if we had a completely full strength squad, but let's just see what happens... |

Trap said something along the lines of 3 centre halves carrying injuries and they are more likely to pick up bookings so he had to be ruthless and make sure he had cover. Makes sense to me. Good management. |
