4 does me grand. not getting fatter, muscle getting bigger and not tired. I'm in the 105 category and weigh 110 atm, still torn to cut down and do the 90-105 group. depends on new job, training, money etc...all the real life factors.

real life is always a cunt for getting shit done.... there's a lad who does the 105kg and juniors stuff who's sponsored by his gym for training and physio which'd be dead handy...if someone could theoretically cover my costs for food and supplements even, I'd be heading towards 120kg and in with a shout for doing some work at national level whereas currently to even scrape in last at novices or 105kg comps would be out of reach...hoping to get in enough shape for making up the numbers at some level next year though it may not happen if some jobs don't start appearing soon or they fuck me off me jobseeker's Sad

Supplements put a huge dent in your dole. It all adds up too, gym membership, petrol to get to and from the gym... It's great that you have the time off to hit the gym and eat throughout the day though when you have a bit of money.

Where do you lot get your supplements from? I buy slow release protein and instant oats from myprotein, and have been doing so for the past year. Their shipping costs are starting to take the piss though.

well the time to yourself is a great aspect to the dole, but the flipside is you can't really enjoy it as you see other people working hard to make ends meet; it's a tight situation really, if a job came up, I'd be on it like a shot even if it means losing free time to shelfstacking or working in a cafe or whatever...as regards making the dole stretch, well even just to keep a gym membership at all is a close call, and after that maybe a tub of whey in a good month, usually nothing more than omega capsules and tesco multivitamins Confused

But then again, the dole's the dole. It's not there to meet all your lifestyle needs, so if I have to spend my savings to top up food and bus tickets for the gym, then that's what it is.

Savings? lucky you Laughing I suppose if you can manage to make the dole stretch for bodybuilding needs you're doing very well to budget it!

well it's fucken tight, but it's possible to be active in the gym on a budget, just takes a hell of a lot longer to see the results due to small amounts of food etc...

Well if you are making that progress with just 4 keeps it up. When are the weigh ins? If they are the day before dehydrate and then carb up before. You would be able to weigh in for the lower category but compete back at your normal level

I'll prob stay in my class tbh! 105-120 isn't so bad. Just need to get stronger instead of lighter haha.

Come closer to comp time I'll be on 6+ a day, will need it from the murderous about of singles I'll be doing.

well by the nature of sport generally there's always going to be a large number of people that are in it for reasons tied closely to ego and self-esteem, they generally tend to be the ones who look to what others are doing with a critical eye... low weights are fine, heavy weights are fine, even machines are fine in their place.

if you're getting healthier and having fun in the gym, then you've won...you're already the king if you can say yes to those two questions imho.l

Exactly. The only reason I'm doing this is just to be better than I was before I started. Personally speaking, I don't care what other people are able to lift or how big they are so I generally wouldn't use anybody else as a measuring stick.

Currently going through another Delorme plan. Substituted military presses for floor presses since I've figured out a way to lift and set the weight down safely.

Something I noticed about the MPs when I did them was that my shoulders got a little rounder and my core strength got much stronger, but fuck all else. I kept adding weight to the bar every week, so it was obviously good for strength but apparently it doesn't do much for me muscle-building wise.

Floor presses seem to be doing the job though. Only my second week into doing them and already I've noticed that they don't eat into my deadlifting as much as the MPs did, plus I can feel it working on more of my body than the military presses.

military press is only really for scrum forwards and strongmen...it won't do much for size,definition...but it does defo increase strength in the shoulders, neck, and belly like a bastard... though actually I do it like a clean and press...is that what you mean by 'floor'?

Nah, floor press is like a bench press.. just without the bench. I put two 10kg plates on two spare cat litter trays and set the barbell on both which makes it easier. So long as you arch your lower back and keep your shoulder blades together to have your chest sticking it, it works just as well.

I pretty much just have free weights so I had to kinda teach myself to clean the bar in order to catch it at collar-bone height for the military presses. I was very proud of myself for that, even if nobody else will probably ever see it.
