Whalestock, the annual DIY benefit for Sea Shepherd returns again in June, but has moved to a new location. This year’s event will be held at The Central Tavern (aka Malachy Kelly’s) just north of Claregalway, only 10 kms from Galway city, on the N17. Starting at 3pm on Saturday June 16th and running until the early hours, the festivities continue on Sunday 17th from 12.30 pm until 5pm, with many of Ireland’s finest punk, hardcore and metal acts showing their support for Sea Shepherd, the direct action ocean conservation group.

Saturday’s show will feature sets from Fag Enablerz, Found on the Floor. Trenches, Setting off Sirens, Evidence of Decay, Runnin Riot, Paranoid Visions and many
more. In addition to the bands on the main stage there will be a number of acoustic acts playing in the barbeque area during the afternoon.

The Management and staff of The Central Tavern are putting a lot effort into helping make this year’s Whalestock a success and will be providing very affordable food and drink during the weekend. There is a large camping and parking area onsite, for folk who want to stay over. An in-house Indian Restaurant will provide meals for vegetarians, vegans and omnivores who like a touch of spice while bar food and barbeque will also be available all day Saturday. Sea Shepherd and Girl Germs will have info/merch stands and you can expect some fine band merch to be on hand too. Breakfast will be available, on Sunday morning to get you ready for sets from Corrosive Machine, Nimh Stil, Vagrants and others.

Whalestock will be one of the high points of this year’s DIY calendar, with a fine line up, easy accessibility (buses from Dublin from €10),camping and affordable prices. Tickets for Saturday/the weekend are only €15, including camping, while €5 will get you for the Sunday only. Further details.

this weekend.

Evidence of Decay, Section 4, Wild Rocket and Trenches have had to pull out of Whalestock. Violins is not the Answer, Swine, Them Martyrs and Christians vs Lions have taken their place in the line up.

for people busing it. taxi from galway city should only be about €15/€20. or the Tuam bus goes through Claregalway.
