Terrible? I didn't think so... it was the ony time I've ever seen them though, so I have no other live shows to compare it to. But yeah, thought it was a great gig myself, apart from the sound issues. |

| the gig with Opeth was 01,that was an excellent gig,Both bands touring decent albums at the time,Blackwater park and Last fair deal gone down.I actually havent seen katatonia live since then,was gutted the irish dates got cancelled a few months back. |

| Sounds straight off the previous album, over produced, proggy here and there which is ok but coupled with regurgitated hooks and predictable melodies. Will wait anxiously for full album but Ah well, atleast ive got Discouraged one to play over and over. |

I was sent out a promo copy about a week or two ago and have been giving the album a few listens. It's just really as expected, nice solid lyrics and I couldn't really point out one song that shouldn't be on there. It's very well put together and the only complaint I'd have is it maybe sticks to the whole melancholy thing a bit too much, at times it feels like you are listening to poetry from another time. Which isn't a bad thing as long as you know what you are in for. It could do with being a little more heavy but I've said that about most of their albums so I'd already give it a 8/10. Racing heart is probably my favorite track off the album so far, looking forward to seeing these guys live.  |

I've never heard Katatonia before, but I listened to that song and quite liked it. Where would be a good place to start with these? |

First couple of albums and EP's are alot different to the rest,they're a band that gradually over a long stretch of albums progressed to the sound they have now. First couple of albums and EP's are class : slow,dirty doomy stuff with death metal vocals. If you like the sound of newer stuff the likes of mid-period Katatonia will probably sit well with you,albums like Last Fair Deal Gone Down,Tonights Decisions & their last album Night Is The New Day. I like pretty much all of their stuff and as i said if you like the new song,its well worth listening to all of the albums and hear how their sound changed (ever-so-slowly) over time.
edit: come to think of it,it might make more sense to work backwards through their albums,once you get to the older stuff it'll probably be easier to adjust to. |

| As for best I'd go for the great cold distance and night is the new day, dance of december souls is great too. I can't listen to one album after the other though, doom is a good genre and all but too much of it can be bloody depressing, it's the same with my dying bride and paradise lost. The black sessions is a good live album too, but its so long that I've never gotten through it once off, again the doom. |

| There are about a million threads on here discussing the merits of various Katatonia albums. But, irrespective of whatever anyone else says, they haven't put out a less than fantastic release yet. Of the post-Doom/Death stuff the daddy of them all is quite possibly 'Viva Emptiness,' although I'll entertain alternative suggestions (except 'Last Fair Deal Gone Down,' which for all its class is the weakest of the bunch). |

| Yeah,pretty much! Like i said its worth going through them all,i could have easily said 'Viva...' as a starting point over 'Last Fair Deal...'. Chances are if anybody likes what they've put out in the last two albums,they are in for a healthy listening relationship no matter what album you pick up. |
