I picked a Jackson KVX10FR up the other day as a trade for my KH202 and it's amazing. Any other fans? It has one of the fastest, most comfortable necks I've ever played, and the pickups, even though they're only the Duncan Designed ones, are fantastic. So clear and responsive. I was inittally a little hesitant about the trade, as I adored my KH, but man am I glad I took the gamble. The KV is so nice that I'm finding myself able to play stuff I couldnt play even a week ago.

Never thought anything would win me over to the stage where I barely touch my Les Pauls any more, but with three of their MIJ models now in my collection, it's fair to say I'm now a Jackson guy. Anyone here use really high end Jacksons, and is there much of a difference in quality between their big guns and my mid-range models? (My Jacksons are a '94 JRR94 Concept Rhoads, an RR3 and this KVX)

cheeky bitch Laughing i know i seem to wax lyrical about every new guitar i pick up (the evidence is there, and its plentiful!) but i know that now i own three Jacksons, its not just a case of "new toy syndrome" as it were. I've owned about a half-dozen jacksons at various stages and have never failed to be impressed by them.

As i was saying, if these mid range ones are awesome, would that quality follow on up their pricing brackets, i.e would a top-end Jackson be my holy grail? Or are their mid-range guitars just a lot better than they should be for their price?

I'm a big Jackson fan, have been for years. The cheaper ones are pretty meh to be honest and nothing compared to the mid or high end stuff they do. I've got 2 soloists and while both are really nice solid guitars. The US one is a thing of beauty that feels like it's playing itself and it sounds great plugged in. There's nothing wrong with the japanese one, it was my main gigging guitar for a few years, but it's not as nice as the other one. My brother has a Rhoads Pro from the 90's that is also really nice with a thru neck and ebony board. That's a great guitar too.
FYI Jackson no longer has a Japanese plant, their guitars from now one will be indonesian or american with no japan made stuff in the import line anymore. The same goes for Charvel and Fender. I have been hearing good things about the work they are doing on the x series though.

Got a source for this? Fender Japan is a separate company, with their own line of models. I can't see them closing just to make stuff in Indonesia.

Jacksons are savage guitars. Big difference between the low end ones and the higher end ones though. I owned an RR3 that sucked. Even had a new bridge and pickups in it and it was still horrible feeling and sounding. Played a few other ones of the cheaper lines and didn't like them either. Their American and japanese stuff is awesome though. Very well made guitars.

The Japanese plant is definitely gone. Apparently it never recovered from the Tsunami and they finally decided to just close it

Not sure if Fender Japan is no longer doing stuff, I might have misread that. I know Fender own Charvel and Jackson now and ceased their Japanese production this year. No more Charvel so-cals which feckin sucks, I was hoping to get one of the white ones!

I'd love to see a source for this. Fender Japan are made by Dyna-Gakki in Nagoya and, as far as I can see, Nagoya wasn't hit by the tsunami.

Ah ok, makes a bit more sense now, the Charvels were built in Chushin-Gakki in Nagano which has indeed closed down. The Chushin-Gakki factory in Nagoya which makes Caparison is still open for business though.

I actually picked up a white So-Cal a couple of months ago off adverts, fucking amazing guitar. There's a black one on adverts at the moment, sell whatever organ it takes to get one Laughing

I pretty much just want the white one! A black strat is just not that appealing to me. Seems like a lot of people have them for sale at high enough prices considering their price new. I had the so-cal on my wishlist for ages and nearly bought one last year but I'd just gotten a Carvin so I figured I'd wait a while but then they took them off production.

They do indeed and as a guitar id never thought id have in my arsenal but its by far one of my favourites. less is more and all that. The christian olde wolbers sig 7 jackson(cow). The boke coloured one. I got it for free too. I bought the aforementioned off ebay for about £400 as mint. i have a thing for dismantling guitars to test their build quality and as i did this on this guitar i noticed the 2 top neck screws were not getting that last turn jsut to tighten it right up. So i gets on to ebay, they offer a refund but i decline this as i then took to mending the guitar with some Arildite(sp?) which by right the guitar is like a set neck now. And probably more stable as a guitar. I then gets onto the fella and explains my findings and explain i bought the guitar mint but it was not (oh and the case was ill fitting). He says hes never been near the guitar to say over tighten the screws to cause thread damage. i pushed for partial refund but this was not to be. So if he says he didnt go near it( i think he did) it was damaged in transit. Parcel force refunded all costs,so i got a guitar and £400 and yer man got his money. smiles all round. The guitar is fantastic. Very minimalistic, fast playing, great sound and light weight. No fuckin about. And its got a rip the piss reverse headstock which is metal as fuck. Like yer man in robocop "IIIIIIIII LLLLLLIIIIIIIIKKKKKEEEE IT!"

Not sure about the the newer post Fender buy-out models... The 80s and 90s models are pure class, I own a 2001 SL2 Soloist in Trans Black and it's still the finest guitar i've ever played...

I also have a Jackson Concept JSX-94, only 400 ever made in Japan in 1994, first "real" guitar i ever owned - a licensed floyd rose & locking nuts, lovely dark metallic blue finish and the equivalent of an Ibanez Wizard neck - for the price it was as good as any Ibanez model at twice the price in the 90s. I paid £350 in Marcus Music for it in 1997, stuck an EMG-85 in the bridge and its fantastic guitar...
