JEFF LOOMIS BIO

Already one of the most lauded and influential guitarists of his generation, Jeff Loomis will forever leave his mark on the face of metal – AGAIN – when Century Media releases his new epic, Plains of Oblivion, in April 2012.

Produced and mixed by Aaron Smith (7 Horns 7 Eyes) and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth), the ten-track Plains of Oblivion is a wholly diverse work that finds Loomis pushing his abilities to new heights that even his most ardent admirers could never have predicted. From the unrelenting, pulsating aural skydive that is “Mercurial,” to the soaring, anthemic arena rock of “Chosen Time;” from the groovy, dreamy “Continuum Drift,” to the predatory, raw “Surrender;” from the melancholic, aching, acoustic “Rapture,” to the chunky, heavy-as-bricks “Sibylline Origin” – no two tracks are alike on Plains of Oblivion, and Loomis never settles for the same old same old.

Ever-aware that to be the best you have to work with the best, Loomis has enlisted a truly staggering list of guest musicians to help him with his latest creative endeavor, including vocalists Ihsahn (Emperor) and Christine Rhoades, guitarists Marty Friedman (Megadeth, Cacophony), Tony MacAlpine (Steve Vai, Planet X), and Attila Vörös (Nevermore), and drummer Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork, Scarve). Plains of Oblivion also features bass by Shane Lentz, an impressive new talent that Loomis discovered via a series of videos Lentz had uploaded to YouTube.

Loomis will support Plains of Oblivion by US touring with two exciting young metal who have both professed him to be one of their greatest influences: Periphery and Protest the Hero. Loomis contributed guest guitars to the track “Racecar” on Periphery’s self-titled 2010 debut. European tourdates will be announced soon.

Jeff Loomis made his first impact upon the metal world when, at the ripe old age of sixteen, he auditioned to be the new lead guitar player for the legendary Megadeth. Although Dave Mustaine ultimately decided that Loomis was too young to join the band, he was so impressed with Loomis’ abilities that he brought the guitarist to the attention of Sanctuary, who were themselves looking for a new six stringer. When Sanctuary disbanded two years later, Loomis teamed up his bandmates Warrel Dane and Jim Shepard to form Nevermore. He went on to write and record seven studio albums with that band, creating some of the most memorable riffs of the late twentieth and early twenty-first century.

In 2011, Loomis’ playing is as innovative and vital as ever, and Plains of Oblivion is his most personal expression of his creative vision yet.

MONUMENTS BIO

The day has finally come for MONUMENTS. The line up is complete, their debut album “Gnosis” is ready to be unleashed and the London-based progroove metal quintet has assembled their arsenal ready to challenge the way you look at the world.

Formed in the UK by guitarist John Browne from the ashes of the pioneering technical groove metallers, Fellsilent (who also featured Acle Kahney of TesseracT in its ranks), MONUMENTS starts somewhat were Fellsilent left off. Many consider Fellsilent ahead of its time, one of founders of the current new wave of UK tech metal. If SikTh were the godfathers, Fellsilent was that crazy cousin always tinkering around with something in the basement. In the years following that band’s demise, Browne honed his craft, both as a songwriter and producer and has brought MONUMENTS out of the underground, prepped and ready for the masses.

There was a time at the start of 2011 where the future for MONUMENTS was unclear. The band had an album written and recorded but didn’t have a vocalist to convey the deep messages within their music. Browne left the UK for a stint of touring across the US as a stand-in guitarist with his old friend Misha Mansoor’s band, Periphery. It was such a successful excursion that he was invited to join the band. However, Browne declined, wanting to focus on MONUMENTS – his brainchild.

Having found guitarist Olly Steele (Cyclamen), bassist Adam Swan and the mind-bogglingly talented multi-instrumentalist drummer Mike Malyan, who has played and done session work with Chimpspanner, The Algorithm and many more, the final piece of the MONUMENTS puzzle was vocalist Matt Rose. Not your typical metal singer, Rose was discovered whilst singing with UK drum ‘n’ bass act The Qemists – collaborators with the likes of Enter Shikari ,Mike Patton and In Flames among many others. Drifting between and beyond genres, he grew up on a diet of of Pantera, Deftones, Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jeff Buckley. He also plays in a jazz/funk band. This fusion of styles is what helps MONUMENTS stand out from the crowd.

The result is “Gnosis” – ten tracks of thoroughly modern progressive metal that has as many hooks as it does important political messages. The title refers to a higher level of spiritual understanding where one stops to answer the questions about one’s existence rather than ignoring the issues and simply following the crowd. The message is distilled to its essence in “Doxa”. The message is simple: don’t believe everything you’re told; think for yourself.

Already inspired by political conspiracy theories and Zeitgeist Films, Rose worked with Dan Weller (Sikth) who was charged with producing the vocals – the one part of the album Browne got production help with. However, Browne’s time on the road with Periphery yielded some fruit in that vocalist Spencer Sotelo appears on “Denial”. It’s a tumultuously rhythmic five minutes that sees the song move between jarring riffs, roared vocals and soaring melodies.

MONUMENTS have created a sound that is as deeply rooted in the here and now as it is in spirituality. There is a balance found in the thought processes and the music. “Gnosis” is the result of years of hard work. It’s time for this band to change your life.

fter touring the UK and Europe twice, supporting the likes of Winds Of Plague as well as Periphery and TesseracT, MONUMENTS will be part of the first instalment of the Euroblast tour feat. Jeff Loomis, MONUMENTS, Vildhjarta and Stealing Axion that is scheduled for a European run mid October to mid November.

VILDHJARTA Bio

VILDHJARTA was formed by Daniel Bergström, Jimmie Åkerström and Johan Nyberg in 2005 in Hudiksvall, Sweden. Hyped since their early days thanks to short demos that circulated the web, they have taken more than half a decade to musically craft their unique style of music. With the three spread throughout Sweden, Bergström, the main songwriter of the bunch, would email ideas to the other guys to get their feedback and suggestions. A groovy, down-tuned riff would soon become a verse. After a few more rounds of emailing, that verse would become a song. As more and more songs started to develop, the natural progression was to add more members and become a band. More members brought more input and ideas and soon their own take on metal was created. As the songs developed and appeared online, so did a rabid fan base. They spread links to the band's songs, promoted them on message boards and rallied behind the war cry of THALL, a word that has almost become synonymous with the band's name.

They demanded to see the band perform, so the band got together and appeared on a few festivals and shows throughout Europe, most notably, the 2010 edition of Euroblast.

Shortly after that performance, the band felt confident enough in their music to begin work on a full length record. The question of whether to work with a label versus self releasing the album came up. Being fully capable of recording an album on their own, one would wonder why they chose to go with the former. The answer, as the band simply states: “Our main reason to work with a label was to get a deadline to actually get a full album together, since it’s something we had wanted to do but broke every internal deadline we set for ourselves. A label, we thought, would stay on us to make it happen.” The band spoke to many record companies but had a long standing email relationship with metal giant Century Media Records and in the spring of 2011, signed a worldwide contract with the label. The band then went into the studio, recorded and mixed 16 tracks entirely on their own and after a quick mastering job by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Devin Townsend) “måsstaden”, their eagerly awaited debut album was born.

Set for a November 28th release date, “måsstaden” will see the creation of two things: One, perhaps the best debut records of this or any year. It's an album of epic proportion from one extreme (brutal, insane riffs) to another (mellow, trippy passages). Two, “måsstaden” is not just an album, it's a city. The record is a concept record, told of a hidden and isolated town narrated in a classic fable manner.

Take a trip to “måsstaden”. See what you think, stay as long as you like...

STEALING AXION Bio

Pacific Northwest’s Stealing Axion was formed in the winter of 2009 by guitarists Dan Forbrich, Josh DeShazo, and Phil Willmarth. The three friends would get together to hang out and write riffs. Slowly, actual songs started coming together. By early 2010 they self recorded and released their EP which rapidly spread across the net and garnered them tons of praise from fans and critics alike. With these songs as a solid foundation, the band maintained a steady regiment of writing and developing their sound and soon had enough material to serve as a full length album.

The band was then contacted by Acle Kahney (TesseracT guitarist and producer) about mixing and mastering the songs. Working closely with him on the sounds and textures of the album, Moments (the title of the band’s debut full length) developed into a dynamic and immense listening experience. The album uniquely combines the ferocity and rawness of modern metal with delicate and expansive atmospheres.  The result is a sound that is accessible while maintaining a detailed and complex framework.

"We feel this album is a culmination of the different compositional techniques that we've experimented with over the last few years.  We like to take the basic song structures and let them ferment and slowly add layers to the mix until we are satisfied.  Some of these songs have taken a while to fully mature." comments Dan.

Regarding the band’s lyrical style, Josh states "We take a somewhat different approach to our lyrical composition.  We try to keep each song focused on a single story or concept, while lending to a much larger picture and message.  This ultimately leaves room for interpretation by the listener, helping each person to have their own unique experience."

With the recent signing to InsideOut Music/Century Media Records, 2012 proves to be an exciting year.  Expect their debut album to be released worldwide in the spring and for them to play in a city near you.
