Sounds like most branches of Christianity that I have encountered are covered there.. According to a lad from some local Church by me if I don't give 10% of my earnings to his Church I'm going to spend eternity in Hell. He then suggested I bring the family and have them saved.

Yep. My brother, who's a Born Again Christian does the same thing, it's called tithing and apparently it's instructed in the Bible... why a dead man from Nazareth needs 10% of my earnings is beyond me...

Tithing is most definitely not in the bible...

Deuteronomy 14:23
And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which He shall choose to place His name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks, that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always.

That was for the ancient nation of Israel to follow, Jesus fulfilled the old testament and freed Christians from all the sacrificing lark. So IMO tithing is not a christian command per se, though if you were to be part of a religion you would donate voluntarily.

Well I don't have corn, wine a herd or a flock so he can get fucked.

I do have some oil but that's for a fry at the weekend.

Don't Born Agains take the old Testament literally though? Ah I dunno, maybe I should just start my own religion and worship Graeme Souness.

All hail the King of Kings!

Worldwide, only Vietnam experienced a greater drop in those describing themselves as religious

The Irish commitment to the Catholic religion is fast draining away, according to a new poll which points to a dramatic plunge in those who regard themselves as religious.

Worldwide, only Vietnam experienced a greater drop in those describing themselves as religious in a poll which extended to 57 countries, covering three-quarters of the world's population.

The survey confirms that Ireland, once regarded as particularly devout, has been almost transformed from the days when the Catholic church exercised both political power and strong social influence.

The church's standing has taken a series of severe blows over the last decade, in particular suffering damage from a series of devastating sex abuse scandals. The sense is widespread that it has reacted sluggishly to the revelations and has been more concerned with defending itself rather than with the interests of victims.

The survey showed that those Irish who considered themselves religious had fallen from 69 per cent in 2011 to less than half today. Ireland was ranked seventh in the 57 countries for those describing themselves as convinced atheists.

Archbishop of Dublin Dr Diarmuid Martin, who has previously warned that the Irish church is in crisis, responded: “The Catholic church cannot simply presume that the faith will automatically be passed from one generation to the next or be lived to the full by its own members.”

Rejoice, rejoice! The church is gone!!!

As an atheist I find Katie Taylor's born again christianity offensive. To the extent that the olympic team is financed in small part by my taxes, I demand an inquest! Off with her head for going against statistically fuelled materialist natural selection!

Oh wait, that's nopt how it works. No, carry on waving the jesus banner, I'll just grin and bear it. Lower paedo count with the born agains at least. Marginal improvement over state sanctioned black outfitted kidie fiddlers....wait, isn't that shit exactly blasphemous to any right thinking human being? That's NOT how it works? Wait, I'm confused.com...
