So just set up the X-Box at the weekend for the first time since moving house/second kid coming along - all of 2 and a half years ago, picked up F1 2010 in Tescos for a tenner and gave it a go, not bad, but too long between save points as two grand prix in and I climbed into bed at 5.50 only to be woken up at 6.40 by a shower of falling Choco Snaps.
Anybody got any recommendations for "must play" games I missed out on? Despite buy the above title I'm not really into driving games, just the F1 ones.
Like the look of that Deadlight one Skad, was a big Res Evil fan (back in the day Ha ha), but when you say "for Arcade": - what do you mean? |

Like the look of that Deadlight one Skad, was a big Res Evil fan (back in the day Ha ha), but when you say "for Arcade": - what do you mean?
The following are the only games I've played on my xbox in the last two years, everything else I get for pc, but if they're on xbox too (most likely) I'll recommend em.
Red Dead Redemption - a great game with a very engaging world. Some of the early missions are a bit lame, but the store picks up and really gets going. There's a part about half way through that blew me away when it happened.
Gears of War 3 - if you've played the rest it's more of the same really. Had some issues with the characters (there's too many) and depending on who your personal favourites are (if any) you might get disappointed that Baird goes missing for about 3 hours of the game and is replaced by Jayce, who you won't know unless you've read the books and comics in the extended universe.
(Rest I've played on PC but are also on Xbox)
Batman Arkham City (and Asylum too if you missed it from 09) - both have GOTY versions, but only City's add's more "story". Both are great games and play almost identically. Asylum is really one big graphic novel like story and all takes where as City is like the animated series where there's one big over arching storyline and several smaller ones that you can pick and choose to do at your leisure.
Skyrim - brilliant game, fixes many of my issues with Oblivion but not all of em (big morrowind fan here). It's huge and engaging though so I don't know if you'd have the time for it. Definitely one of those games you lose a week too if given the chance.
Awesomenauts - this is a great XBLA game if you like multiplayer. It's 3v3 MOBA style. You have to destroy turrets to get to a core and then destroy that. Its a 2d side scroller that will instantly make you want to eat the biggest bowl of sugar filled ceral from your childhood. Very easy to pick up and play and great drop in drop out.
One to avoid - only buy if you're a fan AND it's going cheap.
Saints Row The Third - This game is about 1/4 the game Saints Row 2 was. Less missions in the story, less story in the story. Less customization options, less side mission types and levels per side mission (no fuzz, no toxic avenger, and instead of there being 6 levels of easy, medium, hard theres now just 6 levels of each total). Less hidden gems. It's a fun game, but it's not worth the full price they charged for it. Theres also tonnes of DLC, that was very clearly kept back out of the game to sell to you later on. Only pick this one up if you find it second hand and you liked the series. |

It just means its only available as an Arcade Title through the XBL Marketplace. You'll need Microsoft Points to purchase it and also be connected to the internet to download it. You can get the Points in any game store so its not that much of hassle, I highly recommend the game!
As for other games, everything Jesus Phish suggested, especially the two Batman games. And you ant really go wrong with the likes of COD: Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3 for good online shooters.
Oh and Trials HD and Trials Evolution, again both Arcade games bought through XBL but very worth it! |

Thanks Man, appreciate the response, I had got Batman Asylum but really didn't have the time to properly get into it, I had given a loan to my brother and ain't seen it since (like so many things) - maybe it would be a good one to pick up a cheap copy of.
I haven't played gears of war since the first one, Skyrim sounds up my street all right and I don't mind an epic once I can save when I want and leave it till the next night.
I'll check out Awesomenauts too, after loading up the Xbox I forgot that I had downloaded Double Dragon & 1942 from X box Live so enjoyed a few quick games last night.
On the PC front the only games I ever bought and played where the Total War series - thought I have to say they completely lost me on Empires, I've stubbornly stuck to Medevil & Rome but bought the new Shogun one there when it came out.......just haven't had the head space to load it up and learn all the new shit, any idea wether it's worth it?
Was looking through games I'd like and I've got an inkling to play the "Knights Of The Old Republic Series" - do old X-box games play on the X-Box 360?
Lastly, I'm still playing Pro Ev 09, which is great, I did have a go of 10 in a mates house and didn't think much - is 11/12 worth getting?
Thanks. |

Cheers Man - I had an Xbox live account but shut it off after about a year of not having used it - do I need to purchase an XBL subscription in order to be able to view and buy the Arcade games?
Sold on the Batman games - will go diggin in the bins this weekend. Was the Fallout Vegas any good? |

No you dont need a Gold Subscription to buy games form the MArketplace so your saving your self a few quid there, just need the microsoft points!
I didnt like New Vegas as much as Fallout 3, so much so that I abandoned playing it after a couple of days, but you might like it, Iknow lots ofpeople who do! |

Definitely vouch for both those titles too. Great value for money when you consider the hours you can lose in them. Both easy to drop in and out of for a 2 hour fix here and there to allow for your other family commitments. Well-crafted; and absorbing stories/missions too. Also, Fallout 3 GOTY edition for your post-apocalyptic RPG fix rather than New Vegas (NV is more glitchy and has less content despite the bigger map).
When I finally finish Skyrim, I'll check out those Batman titles myself. |

Ah I forgot about New Vegas, which is strange because I really did like it.
It's a solid game. I like it more than 3 because it had more of a Fallout feeling to it. It has a bit more in common world wise with Fallout 1 and 2. The aiming of guns in first person was improved, but not by much so you'll still end up going into VATs an awful lot.
The story might not seem as straight forward as 3 and at several points you're just kind of left to your own devices without much info on what's going to happen. There's loads of ways to end the game though, much more than 3.
Another one, Deus Ex Human Revolution - amazing game, great set pieces, music, close combat is weak, but the gun play is solid and its the only game in years I've played you can make it through the whole game without having to kill anyone (excluding bosses). |

Thanks.
Pro Evo 09 was the last good one, it was around that time i converted to Fifa. Fifa has gone from strength to strength while Pro Evo unfortnuatly has remained stale. You could probably pick up Fifa 12 cheap enough at this stage. |

Fallout 3/New Vegas are two of the best games in terms of playlength and atmosphere in gaming. I keep coming back to it to become basically Lord Of The Wastes (while being 'good' of course... apparently more 'moral' choices earn better rewards) .... still quite a few places I haven't scoured of all threatening life.
Damn I want Skyrim though. I seriously need to pool some cash for a new rig. This one is from 2007/8 and showing it's age. It does just about play both Fallout FPSRPG's on Mid settings but severe stuttering and heat buildup occurs more often these days.
Been playing a lot of roguelike type games.... Dungeons Of Dredmor, DoomRL and The Binding Of Isaac being the most played. Great stuff to pick up and waste a few hours. |

Get Dead Space 1 & 2 into ye! A must play!
Watch the two animated films on Netflix and download the trailor for number 3 which is out soon...
Growning up, Resident Evil was always my favourite games, but DS has overtaken them for me. Unreal gaming experinences. |

The Exact same thing here, I have all the medievals and Rome series total wars as well as being a huge fan of the original Shogun but just know it will take up too much time and give me a headache trying to deal with all the new changes... damn kids |
