Ok, so we all go abroad quite a lot to gigs etc... And while we're away we spend an amazing amount of money and time looking thru record shops. To cut out all the shit shops and time wasters, Post up the great shops for different styles etc. One of my favourite is a shop in Tampere Finland called Swamp music. Great HC and Crust titles as well as Metal. Theres 2 shops of the same name 1 for new stuff and 1 for second hand stuff. Both great. They're both near the train station.

I haven't been to many different countries, but here are some of my favourite Metal shops:

Eat Metal Records, Athens.
The best place to find underground classic Heavy metal. It's run by one of the coolest guys you will ever meet and the atmosphere in the place is second to none. You can come across the occasional vinyl rarity, but they stock CDs for the most part. Great prices!!

No Remorse Records, Athens.
Huge second hand vinyl section comprised of (mainly) NWOBHM, Heavy, Speed, Thrash, Doom, and some Death. It has a massive selection of CDs; Japanese imports in particular. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are extremely friendly.

Remedy Records, Hamburg.
Decent sized second hand vinyl section covering pretty much every genre. It has a couple of €9.99 bins which are great, and tons of picture discs. Huge selection of CDs and band merchandise. Reasonable prices.

More as I think of them.

Haven't been in Remedy in about 10 years but it's a savage store for collectibles alright. Got some gems in there over the years.

There's a deadly new second hand record store in the Camden Market in London. Prices are good as well. Tons of shite Barry would like.

For one that Vitus s/t I got there. Looks like a boot anyway. Still a pretty good store though. Massive selection

& Eat metal is by far one of the best record stores I've ever been in. Not so much for the stock but the banter, drinking and all crazy crap on the walls. Sirens In Athens was not that bad either.

Ressurection is a really really good store. The amount of quality Vinyl is unbelievable But you'd need a few hours and a couple of grand to spare

Another one that springs to mind is the Comic & Record store in Stockholm. (I think thats what its called anyway Its way up pass the Anchor bar on the same side of the street across from a McDonalds and Skate Park.) Sells Second hand metal, prog and rock Records, CDs, Comics and old star wars figures. My kind of place.

Gibert Joseph in Paris is pretty good. Not strictly a metal shop, it's like a French version of HMV. However, their metal section is quite extensive, and they have a lot of cheap second hand stuff too. Not just your usual Iron Maiden 2nd hand, but underground stuff. It's on the main boulevard south of the Notre Dame cathedral.

I've been in a few of them around the country and the metal sections are always good.

RESURRECTION IS A SHITHOLE.
THE SHOP LINKED TO THE BIEBOB IN VOSSELAAR IS PRETTY GOOD.

There's a street dedicated to metal shops, particularly vinyl, down in the shadow of the Acropoils in Athens. I almost shat myself when I saw it, and apparently there's another one there too.

Excellent thread!

Repulsive Records in Stockholm (www.repulsive.se)
Totem Records (www.totem-records.com)

Both have a very good range of new and second hand stuff, CD and vinyl, mainly black/death/thrash metal stuff.

The Levykauppa Ax chain in Finland (braches in Turku, Oulu, Jyväskylä and Kuopio) is also good. A selection ranging from mainstream to underground, second-hand sections and vinyl.

I agree with the recommendation about Swamp Music in Tampere.

Disc Heaven and the metal branches of the Disk Union chain in Tokyo are good places for shelling out money too. Disc Heaven specialises in heavy metal, including the most obscure bands from all over the globe, but has black/death/etc. too, while Disk Union has all subgenres.

The Gibert Joseph shop mentioned earlier is part of a chain. Their selection in Lyon is excellent, but I didn't find anything of interest in Marseille.

in barcelona just before you come to the top of las ramblas were the park/bus area is. Theres a side street to the left which is filled with metal music shops / t-shirts shops / tatooists etc etc. More cds to vinyl tho

in prague @ Welceslas Square there are several metal shop. At the top right of the street beside Jaromir Jagr sports bar, theres an underground shopping centre with a small music store. At the bottom left of the street theres a czech hmv with a czech metal section. If you facing the bottom of the square directly infront of you is a clothes store. A few doors to the left is another shopping centre. Upstairs is a huge vinyl/cd store, loads of metal memorbilia for sale also like tour posters etc. And across the street from that is another metal cd shop with various bootlegs.
