I know some people on here post on the Bloodstock forum occasionally but can I ask for bands that you would like to see at BOA next year - and if you didn't go this year, what bands would convince you to come over next?
I guarantee that I will bring up your suggestions at our next booking conflab!

Would love to see any (or all) of the following:

Riverside
Pain Of Salvation
Threshold
Anathema
Dream Theater (I know very unlikely)
Queensryche
Blind Guardian

Will add bands more when I think of more. I've never seen Riverside before, but their stuff is amazing, so would love to see them live. Have seen the rest of the others before (the last 4 loads of times), but would watch them again & again...

That would guarantee me returning to BOA again.

Honestly, for the ticket price being the same as the "big boys" in Europe it would need to have a line up almost on a par with those big festivals over the water such as GMM, Hellfest, and Wacken, but know that just wont happen.

I think making decent use of the two stages would be better than having one main stage for well known bands, and the other stage for UK ones, because I only went to the second stage when any Irish bands were playing it and had no interest in the others.

Its good to see Sabaton on the bill for 09, and its definitely a good start - but the headliners must be one of the big bastard metal bands to get me to fork out that much money for a ticket.

That and less power metal, cant help but notice there always seems to be an overload of it on the lineup.

The large amount of Power Metal is the sole reason that's ever made me even consider going to the English midlands for a festival, so more of it I say!

But really, in order for me to ditch Wacken/Graspop etc in favour of this, you'd have to have something special, a Bruce Dickinson solo gig, a Statovarius reuinion, or maybe just Power Quest? Very Happy

Nail. Head.

Maybe if it wasnt in august where its most likely to bucket outa the sky during then, but in mid June or whenever so as theres a greater chance of better weather, because BOA has the problem of you tend to be a bitch to the elements - blazing sunshine or pissing rain that ya really cant get away from.

Edguy must be due to play again too Very Happy and if you somehow managed to get Ayreon I'd pay double. Not likely at all to happen but hey, worth throwing out there as a possibility.

Thanks guys, keep 'em coming!

BOA will always try and produce a diverse metal line-up, which will inevitably include some Power Metal.

When you mentioned the big bastard metal bands, Alterz, can you be a bit more explicit?

If the ticket prices are going to be what they are - which is similar if not more expensive than the big festivals in Europe as mentioned above - The headliners playing at BOA would have to be bands on the same level as those playing Graspop/Wacken?hellfest etc as headliners. I know that this idea would be close to next to impossible and prices would have to hike again but with flying getting so cheap (well, unless your with XL) its just as easy, if not easier to hope over to Germany/Belgium for a festival and see THE biggest names in Metal playing, rather than bands which, no harm to them, are not as big - ie Nightwish headlined, yet they played my Students Union in April - as Opposed to Graspop getting the likes of Priest/Kiss/Maiden. I know those bands are beyond huge, but even one major headliner of those sorts would really put BOA on the map.

Another point I was thinking about would be to announce the names of bands especially headliners a lot sooner. Ticket prices go up around Xmas and before then this year there was not enough on the bill to convince me to go - but after xmas when the prices went up, I probably would have been more inclined to go if the ticket prices were the same.
I dont know how that would work as I know next to nothing about getting bands to play fests and when/how they can be finalised and announced, but it would make it easier for us to know if were travelling across the water to go to BOA, rather than having to decide much later on.

As Rory said a few posts above - for BOA to gain some form of one off, special gig would be amazing - such as a rare solo appearance in the UK by Mr Bruce Dickinson would get me over without a second thought - surely if Maiden are not doing anything in the summer theres no harm in asking... I know that there was the big ACDC stuff last year to kick the festival off - but I among a load of people missed it due to what time we could get there by. But a one off, Dickinson headlining show would be unreal. Distant dream maybe, but it would be one hell of a coup for the place.

I think Bloodstock are doing very well in terms of getting good bands.. This year, it was so hassle free getting there & the line up was great, so I say if it carries on progressing the way it has been & peoples complaints and suggestions are listened to then I'll definitely carry on supporting it. I can understand people that can only afford 1 festival a year, choosing one of the European ones above Bloodstock, but if you can afford more than one, then I think Bloodstock is definitely a contender, especially for people that are getting sick of the overcrowded, problematic fests like Wacken.. I have no problem paying the same, if not more money to go to Bloodstock, if it means keeping it a small fest, as its great not having any queues and being able to see no matter where you stand.. More of the same I'd say!

Personnally Maiden wouldn't draw me over as I think they've played enough festivals recently and woudln't be high up on my to see list (even less Bruce, who I personnally can't abide), but hey thats just me & I'm sure, them being a UK band, they'd probably attract a lot of people..

isnt that how ticket prices go at every festival? the presale is the same price as the year before and the official sale is the new price. i personally like the fact that bloodstock has less big names at it because you get to see any of the bands you want to see up close. And I wouldnt wanna see it ending up a download type festival. Bloodstock is very easy to get to even from EMA only we didnt ask at information last year. My friend even managed it on his own on the saturday morning. And dont get me started on the power metal Razz more of it i say, in fact all power metal Razz no i think its generally gets a decent mix and the more free time i have, the more drunk i get at my tent

oh and someone said there they missed the acdc thing last year, well that was sorted this year because the campsite opened a day before the bands started. I would prefer better toilets, even if like wacken you paid 50p to use them and they're kept clean. but i still loved it even with the stinky toilets.

My only actual complaint at this years Bloodstock was not the organisers fault. The campsite was to open at 12 on the thursday but opened about an hour late. We were very tired after no sleep at all cos had to be up at 4 am for flight and there was a bunch of twats that were complaining so much. They actually phoned one of the managers to go nuts, you might actually know about that Rob Laughing I think everyone in the queue wanted to punch that guy.

Anyways great festival and will most likely go next year again
