Not reading this thread because I don't want to find out anything about season 3 onwards yet but I have to say that this show is easily the best thing on tv. I could never get into CSI or any of those shows where its all about the forensic stuff (Silent Witnesss is an exception to the rule) which is why I like a proper detective show like The Wire. Great characters and great dialogue as well. Some of my favourite lines in the first two series have to be;

"McNulty- you shot a mouse with your service weapon?
Bunk- well the first shot went through her dress shoe. The second one got him.
McNulty- what'you do with the carcass?
Bunk- I left him out there as a warning to all the other little mouse muthafuckers y'know?""

"McNulty- ...Fuck...
Bunk- ...Fuck...
McNulty- ...Fuck...
Bunk- ...Fuck fuck fuck..." (ad nauseam for about 5 minutes)

"Bunk- Them Greeks has some weid ass names.
McNulty- Hey lay off the Greeks they invented civilization.
Bunk- Yeah, and assfucking too"

"McNulty- State your name for the record.
Sergei-...
McNulty- Ok we'll call you Boris.
Sergei- Boris...Why always Boris?"

"Judge Phelan- I'd love to throw a fuck into her"

Its amazing how this show manages to draw you in like that without having to use cliffhanger endings all the time.

I'm dead jealous. Another month or two and I'm gonna watch them all again.

got through season 2 over the weekend, great, thought season 1s story was better, but there was something a bit more entertaining in season 2. Shall start season 3 tonight hopefully. I was told if i liked the Barksdale story in 1 that i will love season 3 so cant wait to be honest.

The Barksdale seasons were good, the Polak one was decent, im trying to get into 4. Im just not totally into the whole reforming the schools storyline yet, plus there aint enough of the old regulars as yet, i hope that changes. I like the Carcetti and Royce storyline but as a whole i wouldnt rate it near 1 or 3, possibly even behind 2 (so far), im only half way through the season, so hopefully itll spring to life, they usually do.

As for Snoop, how anyone could contemplate that is beyond me, the mannish face and the lower than Darth Vader voice would send shudders and shivers down your spine.

Although when Kima cheats on her missus..that was acceptable.

There's something about her, isn't there? I've been ridiculed relentlessly for it, but I would.

Just watched the last episode about 2 weeks ago - pure stunning from start to end.

As i was watching it, i stayed away from this thread on purpose and still haven't read the whole thread. So i will ask, does anyone else think Marlo was the best character throughout the series? The fact that he barely said 2 words and barely moved in 3 seasons, yet demanded so much attention?

Has to be the best thing HBO have ever done...

(apart from True Blood, only for the fact that TB has Deborah Ann Woll in it)

I only really got Marlowe watching it through the second time. It wasn't until the "MY NAME IS MY NAME!" line the first time he really took my attention. Are you talking about Marlowe as the best character in the whole show or just season 5?

I got talking to a guy in work about Baltimore this week and the conversation moved onto The Wire. Got a lend of series 1 off him. First episode watched last night and another three tonight. Looks like it has me by the balls.
