Think of how many worthless thieving cunts you've read about who've walked away from court recently despite being found guilty of violent crimes and now read about the guy who has been jailed for six fucking years for importing garlic and having them labelled as apples.

| Yeah, it's awful. Most get away with a manslaughter charge, which carries a pathetic sentence. So the message is it's ok to get tanked up and kick the fuck out of someone until they're dead, 'cos you can always claim you were locked and didn't know what you were doing and get a 4 year sentence, backdated to the time of the incident, out in half the time for good behaviour. Baffling. Murder is murder except in a self defence case. The guy that killed that poor bloke from navan who was in his sixties got a miserable 4 year sentence there recently. |

Quote: The scam was uncovered on 9 October 2007 when customs officers at Dublin Port investigated a container that was thought to contain 18 tonnes of apples and two tonnes of garlic.
When they looked inside they found 21 tonnes of garlic and no apples.
Dun dun dun! |

Also, saying that it was "very grave" to have defrauded the taxman of 1.6 million euro. OK, it's not ideal, but it's a drop in the ocean compared to all the tax evasion that has been going on in Ireland for decades. Were any of the Ansbacher account holders jailed for 6 years?
And why make the sentences consecutive while you could kill 14 people and get 14 concurrent sentences.
A true banana republic. |

How is this vermin not a "worthless thieving cunt"?
Shite like household charges and water charges are being brought in because of tax avoiding filth like this cunt.

| It's like they put profit over morality. When someone murders someone else, "ah sure it's nothing because it does not effect us financially." But when someone tax evades, "that is unforgivable, how dare he!! Better lock him up and punish him so that he does not affect our profits any further". |

I am under the impression the government are bringing those in to make more profit for themselves. They are thinking of themselves, not the people. |

By virtue of the fact that he employs over 100 people and, even in this swindle, was still paying considerable tax back into the pockets of our European banking overlords so, while thieving cunt he may be, worthless he is not.
To reinforce the initial point, which you seem to have missed, of a crooked judicial system which has got its priorities somewhat askew, I just googled "6 year jail term, Ireland" to see what else you get six years for:
2nd conviction for raping your wife with a newborn baby in a cot at the end of your bed also gets you six years
http://www.irishhealth.com/article.html?id=8909
Sexually assaulting two children and continually harassing them for thirty years only gets you four years. Two years per child, eh?
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/1115/1224307583484.html
But having garlic labelled as apples so you pay less tax is a serious as that and gets you six years inside. Maybe we just have a different idea of what vermin really is? While there's no condoning the crime, is it not a little excessive a sentence in light of how justice is usually dished out here? |

Possibly, are you arguing for less of a sentence for this guy or harsher penalties for the other crimes you mention?
I've no problem with harsher penalties for all the crimes you mention. In fact I demand them as streneously as you do.
There's an implication in your posts, and in the judges comments, that because this guy employs people and sells middle class food to tarquin and iseult in rathgar that therefore he is not a low life. He stole 1.6 million that should have been spent on hospitals. He is a cunt pure and simple. 6 years is not enough. Just because other cunts got lesser sentences should not generate outrage on his behalf. |

I apologise, I wasn't aware poor people didn't enjoy the fineries of garlic too. This really is a bastard of a recession.
Is a custodial sentence the correct punishment though? Surely a large fine the company would be better, no? Leave this guy who has already contributed sizable amounts of tax into the system in a position to work off the debt and then continue working to pay off a fine. The state gets extra money to pass on to the EU and this guy learns his lesson. It wasn't a violent crime, what can he contribute to society while in prison? The answer is fuck all. It's going to cost the taxpayer even more to lock the bastard up for that time, when you could just have him work to repay his debt instead. How is that a victory for the people? |

From the link above:
Quote:
"It gives me no joy at all to jail a decent man," Judge Nolan said.
He said Begley was a "success story" and an "asset to the country" in supporting the economy and providing employment.
He noted Begley's generosity and that he donated money to homeless charities and St Vincent de Paul.
What a cunt! How dare he!!!! Choosing Vincent de Paul and the homeless over hospitals! |

Not ideological nonsense, more of a cheap jibe for my own amusement. |

Such a course of action would send out a message that if you chance your arm on not paying tax then you might get away with it, and even if you don't sure the punishment is only a slap on the wrists anyway, so in fact you'ld be a simpleton not to avoid tax. |
