Caught the end of the Wales France game saturday,how the fuck did Harinordoquy not score that try ?
Watched the Ireland game,what a disaster.
Some really poor play from ourselves and bad decisions from the ref especially that try that should never have been but I wouldn't use that as an excuse we were bad.
I read today Hartley was cited for biting and could get a heavy ban for it. |

Yes, it was an unbelievable result for Ulster. Despite having very little possession for three quarters of the game, they defended better than I have ever seen from any other team. I think that the total tackle count was 160 from Ulster which is a phenomenal rate!
In theory, Ulster should beat a limited Edinburgh side in Dublin later this month to set up a final appearance.
On another note, I thought that Munster never really looked like beating Ulster by te end of the match. Symptomatic of a wider malaise in their over-reliance in the typified Munster 'bash and kick' approach? |

| I am delighted that McGahan is leaving Munster at the end of the season. He has overseen Munster from best team in Europe to third best in Ireland. His signings, tactics and team selections have been awful at times. Well done Ulster, I will be cheering you on all the way to the final! |

excellent defense from Ulster, Ferris was astounding. Munster looked shellshocked and unprepared for the level of intensity that Ulster brought for the first quarter and althought they failed to carry that intensity past the half hour mark their defense was just impeccable.
I dont think Edinburgh will really threaten Ulster, Ulster have left them well beaten in the rabo this season and Toulouse looked very uninspired to be honest, Beauxis was more than miserable on kicking duties and his decisions around the pitch was fairly poor with some seriously dangerous/reckless passes too.
I hope that Ulster/Edinburgh just doesn't descend into a forwards only game, i hope both teams will get their backs into action, i especially want to see Visser and Trimble in flying mode.
as for Leinster, all i can say is "Brad Thorn". what a beast. |

i reckon (hope) Toner is going to learn a lot from him. Toner has really been impressive this season, he's really come a long way from when he was awkwardly top heavy in contact to where he is now, has his balance sorted and jasus the way he contests for the ball with those arms, looks like he has a set of oars with him. |

Not strictly speaking from a Ulster bias, I think that Tuohy deserves a tilt at the Irish second row as he put in a total of around 19 tackles on Sunday whilst Los carrying a lot of ball. He's a brilliant player, but Kidney doesn't like the way he plays apparently.  |

Paul Marshall has been blistering, far more dynamic than murray/o'leary this season but i dont see kidney bumping him up the pecking order any time soon.
i reckon Kidney has done the maths and reckons he has enough players in the pot to see him out to the end of his term without having to take a gamble on new blood.
there is a huge talent pool up there, paul/luke marshall, darren cave, touhy, paddy jackson to name but a few.
I dont know if kidney has something against Ulster players, or is it just that he doesn't watch them play week in week out in the rabbo? perhaps there is pressure from above to pick players from munster/leinster due to the way they are perceived in the media to be "winning" players. dunno.
of all the talent out there i feel terrible for Fionn Carr, moving to Leinster was a terrible move, he really is only there to rest the Kidney approved internationals. |

| Kidney is a tool and I'm sure the majority would prefer him gone I don't think there's an anti Ulster bias. One swallow doesn't make a summer. If I remember correctly Tuohy got some game time on the last tour to NZ and wasn't exactly inspiring. And there's a big step up from Rabo to Heineken Cup and again to internationals. These guys will get their chance (I would assume this summer in NZ) but who knows who will eventually replace Kidney and whether or not they will be less conservative when it comes to team/squad selection. I wouldn't bet on it. |

Fionn Carr only has himself to blame for his idiotic move where he was never going to be ahead of Kearney, Nacewa and McFadden.
As for Kidney he is definately not suited to international rubgy IMO. He had a great start with the 15 game unbeaten run but now since then we have been awful mostly and occasionally inspiring. Munster and Leinster players do get selected instead of Ulster players because of the teams they play for it seems to me when the beyond average O'Leary has so many chances |

speaking as a regular patron of Ravenhill there's no way Paul Marshall is international quality. TOL, Boss, Reddan are fairly uninspiring alternatives to Murray for the number 9 shirt but Pienaar is light years ahead of any Irish 9 and barely gets on for South Africa. Selecting Marshall wouldn't solve anything and in my opinion people are smoking crack if they think it would. he combines a slow pass off the ruck with ones that frequently fly behind the backs and offers no physical presence. His box kicking has improved immeasurably and I do like him but he's not an international.
I think there's a mild bias against Ulster because Leinster and Munster have been so often involved in crunch matches that it's natural to turn to their players. That'll change over time and once Kidney's conservatism is gone.
there is a good talent pool in Ulster but to look at the examples Tuohy is really the only one who has been hard done by. however, he has been a penalty machine in some of the big games; hopefully that's an experience issue. Darren Cave was rumoured to be in the mix for the 6N but was unfortunately injured. The possibility of Chris Henry coming in as a 7 has been mooted; I think he's massive for Ulster but frankly he's another 6.5 rather than a true 7. Jackson, Luke Marshall, Porter and Nelson will hopefully all have a big part to play in Ulster's future.
anyway. ecstatic about the result at the weekend and delighted about how the season has panned out post-RWC, there were some dark moments in the autumn. in terms of the semi, John Afoa has been cited for a dangerous tackle and I think it could be season over for him. I haven't seen it back but I was surprised he got away with it at the time, looked like a stonewall lift and drop. |

Loki-Was going to wish your gang good luck out West tomorrow i,but sorry i can't .Don't think they need any luck and even though it'll likely be a second tier Ulster team,i'd gladly take a 3-0 win for the home team if offered
Richard:Re Fion Carr.To be fair ,i think he was practically on the Bus to Ulster before they pulled out of the deal and he found himself in no mans land.At that point Connacht had there Budget spent and couldn't take him back.So i suppose he ended up at leinster as opposed to being brought there.Would only love to have him out West again.He's played some cracking stuff with Leinster but doesn't seem to have a hope of making anything other than the Rabo team. |
