| Jesus this really is the season from Hell for Munster fans now. Leamy has just been forced to retire and now Darragh Hurley has too and hes only 26! Thats 8 players who have been forced to retire from injury in the last 18 months or something rediculous like that |

well by Christ what a match yesterday.
Shane Williams was simply terrefic, what a way to end a career, he was the fly in the ointment of many teams over the years and what a fitting end.
totally puzzled by Poite's decision making.
Mike Ross? nothing really needs to be said. |

Williams had a cracker alright. amazing feet that little fucker.
2 1-point defeats to irish teams in the space of a week, rather annoying.
Paul O'Connell ruled out of the NZ tour now as well, it bodes not well for the irish prospects.
Still though, that gang of 30 odd heading out to NZ to get pulverised at the end of an 11 month season are gonna come back tougher and wilier, and hopefully with more knowledge of how to be dogged at the breakdown and disrupt the fuck out of teams like the AB's do.
Can't wait to see how the new props work out, as well as a back row combination without the mountain that is Stephen Ferris.
O'Brien at 6 and O'Mahony at 7 seems most likely- how they handle McCaw will be the real test.
Bring it on. |

I just had a horrible vision of us being 40-3 down and NZ emptying there bench after 50 minutes .Getting a kicking is one thing ,but not being considered good enough to leave McCaw etc on is arguably worse.
I really really hate these June tours and would love to see the lads get a rest instead. It's a necessary money spinner for them like the Home Autumn Internationals are for us.Works both ways.
At the same time there's a few props being blooded and a few potentially exciting backs getting their wings . |

Was really impressed with Craig Gilroy in the Ireland vs Barbarians game i think he should have been included in the squad at least even just for the experience. Saying that im looking forward to see what influence Tommy Bowe will have on him in the Ulster squad next season.
Has anyone heard any news about what players will be coming in to replace those departing ulster ? |

I think Gilroy's a diamond of a player, he's really impressed me over the last 2 seasons. Originally I thought Gaston and Spence would be the two lads to come through but Gilroy has been immense. Bowe's return puts real pressure on Trimble, but then again Bowe's coming back from a fairly major kidney operation and may not be seen in an Ulster jersey for a bit yet.
regarding those coming in...some of the rumours are centred around a South African IQ hooker who used to be on London Irish's books, Rob Herring. Jacques Botes (ex-NZ flanker) could be coming in on a 1 or 2 year deal, possibly to play blindside. Roger Wilson is returning to add numbers to the back row and Niall O'Connor is all but certain to return from Connacht it seems.
on the whole perhaps a year for make do and mend, or consolidating between another big signing if the money's there. I'm not in love with the idea of NOC returning but I do think we need to trust Paddy Jackson with the 10 shirt and let him develop. There's a lot of fans who are angry that a player like Wannenburg who is a cult hero, has a family here and desperately wanted to stay has been forced out by the new IRFU rules. Given that Ireland's back row is arguably their strongest area it seems rich to claim that he might hinder the development of others, all the more so given that Wilson was confirmed as returning to play alongside PW and not replace him.
did anyone catch the Wolfpuppies game against South Africa in the Junior's World Cup last night? Hearing great things about JJ Hanrahan, the Munster 10. Also, a player I think could really break through - Ulster's Iain Henderson - apparently had a stormer. |

| very poor game between Scotland and the wallabies, obviously due to the weather, I thought it should have been called off, the U20's game was great some quality future players, springboks scrummy had a disaster of a game, missed the Ireland vs babas game, can't find highlights anywhere either. |

So much for Kidney saying that he wouldn't be experimenting in these matches. But it's a good thing that some new combinations are being tested.
I like the look of the pack (taking the injuries onto account). Touhy and Ryan fully deserve to be starting together. Fitzpatrick is going to have a very long and busy day.
Some strange decisions in the backline. Picking Earls and Zebo (as well as that pack) make it look like Kidney's looking for a fast attacking game, whereas Murray at 9 completely contradicts that.
Defensively, we're pretty much screwed.
I don't usually feel too negative leading up to a match, but I can see NZ beating us by 20-30 points (or more).
Hopefully the experience will stand to some of the players. |
