Using the push pull is way harder and requires a few months sitting with an ould pad in front of you. Most bands that use it over do it. Get the Devournment album. Perfect example of brilliant gravity blast used sparingly but to devastating effect.

I'm a fan of gravity blasts myself, started learning them a while ago, not too satisfied with the lack of power you get from them though.
As for showing off, theyre not pointless. One footed blasts are pure pointless though. Why not just split it out over two pedals, take the strain off? Instead of - 'christ look at how fast I can move my right foot'. Plus if it wasnt shown in the videos you couldnt tell anyway. i.e Nile - 'sacrifice unto sebek' video. |

| i,ve been playing gravity blasts for nearly a year now,fun but still difficult enough to learn, when you master the timing for the technique and get the power its fun to play,i like using them in certain parts of tracks, but will never overdo it like some death metal bands doing the rounds in the states, like dan said, they can be used to devastating effect if placed properly, next i,m gonna start doing one footed blasts if possible, get both feet equal, watched kollias dvd last night, the speed that guy has on both feet is shocking, doing one foot blasts on each foot, makes total sense with balanced feet |

When i was learning blasts i thought the same and went mad into the two foot method. It sounds weird but some riffs sounded better with one foot blasts. It's also good for the foot control as well. |

Agree totally, I think its a bad sign if the main selling point is how proficient they are technically. It kind of says we can play instruments but cant make good/interesting music.
But blastbeats aren't really technicaly are they? I rarely play drums and I can blast a bit, it's endurance and speed.
Personally I think they can be used to add some heaviness here and there but when a song is just constantly BLAST BLAST BLAST it can be pretty boring. |

I never got any sense of atmosphere from Necrophagist. To quote some anonymous comment I saw on some youtube video 'they're the Dragonforce of death metal'. Mundane complexity for the sake of it.
Gravity blasts are fine in small doses but a constant barrage just gets very boring very quickly. |
