Certainly won't appeal to the vast majority of the board, but will do those of the Meshuggah/Textures/Dev Townsend/Daleth/Intronaut/Animals As Leaders persuasion. Cloudkicker is basically an American chap called Ben Sharp whose releases are free to dl from his site because
'It costs me absolutely nothing to create the music. Zero dollars. I record all the guitars and bass straight into my laptop and program the drums using this one sequencing program, then I mix and master everything myself. The only thing that costs money are guitar strings, but I have a full-time job so it’s no big deal. If you paid money for this you're a sucker. Headphones or very loud speakers are required, drugs are optional.'
No big deal but, what appeals to me about his stuff (myself not being a huge fan of any of the aformentioned) is the warmth of the guitar tone and the hooks he throws in. It all sounds great, give it a whirl if you're that way inclined.

This actually sounds really impressive for what's basically a bedroom recording. You can tell the drums are sampled but the layered guitars are deadly

Just gave this guy a listen for the first time. It's really good stuff, definitely sounds impressive for what is, as has been mentioned, basically a bedroom recording. It really reminds me of something that I can't quite put my finger on..

I got some of his stuff a few months back. It's really good stuff, a nice mix of atmosphere and groove. For a one man project it's really impressive.

Downloded the discovery a couple of years ago and couldn't stop listening to it. The mix is amazing and I was very surprised it was free. Fair play to him! Great tunes.

Good stuff that, must get more.
On a side note, another great one man band are Sleep Terror. Much more erratic than Cloud kicker, and fuck can he play guitar...

I've been listneing to this solidly since it came out, fantastic release. Amazing that's a bedroom recording since it basically kicks the crap out of most instrumental metal. Great singwriting, atmosphere and riffs, and pretty addictive too. Pretty cool the way the songtitles are all exerpts from various air disaster transcripts.
