im delighted for Haye, i thought he was really up against it tonight, with the crowd against him, and that monster of a man he was fighting...
But he stuck to his game plan well and really got the better of the russian over the 12 rounds, not to mention he nearly knocked him out in the 12th...
His footwork was spot on and his movement was sharpe start to finish.
If he had of went for the KO in the 10th or 11th he would of got it.
Valuev was disappointing tho, he deserved to lose his title, he didnt offer any real form of treat, any time he could catch Haye he couldnt get anymore than a jab or two on him...
Ah well, roll on Cotto and Pac Man on the 15th, Sky Sports 1 too |

saw some great advertising for the david haye fight in a country pub in cork.
''david haye vs the russian guy'' was on the advertising sign outside the door. |

Well yeah, Valuev has his fights promoted out of Germany, the majority of the crowd we're up for him. |

| Very boring fight. Glad Haye won though. Would have been amazing to see Valuev knocked out or at least knocked down. Haye did what I expected last night but I thought he'd throw a lot more punches. Having said that Valuev has a good defence and is so tall I suppose Haye would have left himself open if he threw too many at a time. |

Pretty much sums it up, pity there wasn't a 13th round. Will be interesting to see if Haye did actyally break something in his hand. Will make the HW divison more interesting again. |

There was a pic of him at the airport on BBC, it looked fairly swollen alright. He said Valuev's head was like hitting bricks |

| Haye is a complete turd of a human being, spent his entire time in the build up insulting Valuev who happens to be a really nice bloke, and then procedes to spend the majority of the fight running away. And just as the icing on the cake, afterwards when Valuev waited in the ring to congradulate him, he completely blanked him. Disgraceful decision, one good punch in a late round does not mean you deserve to be champion. Either of the Klitschko brothers will make a show of him. |

the reason he didn't throw more was because he broke his hand- or certainly badly damaged it- in the second or third round. If he hadn't suffered this injury, Valuev would likely have been knocked out long before the 12th round.
Saturday's fight was boring to watch for the casual fan - and probably for many long time enthusiasts too.
However, the fundamentals of boxing have not changed: the sport is about hitting and not being hit. This is what Haye did very effectively on Saturday.
So it doesn't matter if Haye was back-pedalling not throwing many more punches than Valuev all night, as long as more of his landed cleanly throught the fight(which they did). This is why the judges awarded the fight to Haye.
If the fight was judged on the basis of hitting thin air for most of night then Valuev clearly deserved to win. As it isn't about that, Haye was the deserved winner.
No arguments over Haye being an arrogant twat. He did blank Valuev and was rather ungracious in his comments immediately afterwards. He dwelled on the point about making Valeuv look silly. Whether he did or not, he should not boast about it, just show his opponent some respect.
yeah i know he has renewed interest in the heavyweight division and a fighter has to have high regard for himself but he takes it too far- it would be ok it was just for show to put bums on seats but it really does not seem to be the case with him. |
