Still waiting for 2.2 from orange. Should be here in a week or so if not sooner. Am tempted to root the phone just to get it faster but not decided yet. The torch facility has been around as an app for a while, just be careful how much you use it Barry as rumour has it can fuck up the phone if overused. I find it well handy but it drains the battery t' fuck.

Got a fantastic gel skin for my phone off amazon for 2.99 ...phone never slips from hand now and can easily takeaq drop or two.

Yeah, I read that about the flashlight app alright. I'll rarely ever use it though. I'm pretty sure the 2.2 update reached me direct from HTC and not through Vodafone as there's no branding/locking of features whatsoever. Granted I still haven't tried out the portable hotspot properly but it doesn't seem to be locked down one bit.

Google are calling press together for a mobile announcement on August 12th. I wonder what's that all about? http://gizmodo.com/5609571/whats-google-got-planned-for-august-12th

Picked up a Galaxy S there the other day, lovely bit of kit.

Running 2.1 update 1 at the minute, doesn't seem to be a 2.2 release for it yet.

hmmm, maybe you lot can be of some help:

can't really be arsed with iphones due to the price outside of contracts and by the looks of it i can't get free skype-skype calls over wifi on android at the minute due to some bitchfight with apple... but i can on symbian. theres a rather swish looking nokia n8 coming out soon (if its not out already) running symbian 3. anyone know much about the OS?

Sounds like you were one of the lucky ones who got an unbranded desire. Incidentally if anyone is on t mobile then this will get you the update now

May work on o2 and virgin etc but it will sim lock an orange phone if not unlocked first.

Not sure what google have planned mate but it might be tied into this google app pay thing they have been going on about. Incidentally make sure you grab mplayer app (lets u download iplayer files directly to phone) and also scanner radio (great fun listening to nypd police radio..mad shit)

Just in case some of ye dont know about it, theres a text based virus going on Android. Could prove very costly if you get it. Hope it doesnt affect anyone but better to know now rather than later.

I use http://www.appbrain.com a lot. There's a few blogs I follow too (like http://androidandme.com and http://www.phandroid.com) that often make recommendations.

I bought a Samsung Omnia Lite windows based phone(WI-FI etc) a month ago from Expansys (new..not the refurbs they are selling now at twice the price)...89 unlocked+free car kit.Great phone, don't have a clue about half the things it can do Laughing ...it also came with free N-Drive sat Nav UK+Ireland maps which works really well and the phone seems to get decent reviews....,running it on Vodafone PAYG 10 a month..500mb data+300 texts and you don't lose your credit if not used up.....they actually gave me 5 free and 500 more texts at xmas....don't know what that was all about.

I have a rooted HTC Desire running Android Gingerbread 2.3, it's mega fast and contains none of the rubbish bloatware that phone manufacturers and providers ruin their phones with. So yeah, if you've an Android, rooting is the way to go for optimal performance. You can do all kinds of cool stuff with a rooted phone too, like move all the data from every app to the SD card (thus avoiding internal memory running out - big issue with the Desire), overclock the hell out of it if you're that way inclined, backup and restore everything easily if it crashes, etc.

Decided to give into the world of the smartphone and used my O2 upgrade to get an N8...had been more interested in the N900, but it isn't stocked anymore and it's name seemed to be a laughing matter for staff at stores haha.

The N8 has good online reviews, but still have to go through it for myself. Nice phone though and thankfully not an iPhone!

I love the Android platform. I was never a fan of Apple stuff, and I just like how Android works.

I had a go of the Samsung Galaxy S last night. Really nice phone. Lightning fast, and smooth. Delicious.

Android 3.0 looks really really nice for tablets too.

Developing for Android is really really intuitive. The integration of the SDK and Eclipse is fantastic. Upgrading the SDK is just a single click, and I love the Android Virtual Device.

Great platform.

THIS IS GOING TO SOUND STUPID BUT I DROPPED MY HTC DESIRE Z IN THE SINK EARLIER, TOOK IT APART, DRIED IT, PUT HAIRDRYER TO IT ON COOL, AND IT STILL DOESNT WORK.
IS IT FUCKED?
