| When the Sun Drowns in the Sea sounds incredible. Sent a shiver down the spine. Where do the Sean Nós (?) samples come from? The one at the start sounds very haunting. |

Yeah its unique and almost haunting piece but a true representation of its time.
As mentioned in the AoP interview on here it adds something more to the mood of the album.
Studied a bit about the wake and associated customs while in college, was never afforded the chance to hear a recording of the "Keening" or " An Bhean Chaointe" props to AoP. |

| Not to hijack this thread but there is also some keening on the new WOTH album at the end of Cess Pit People. It's buried in among the guitars and just adds an extra layer of weirdness. Coinkidink. Anyway, back to AOP! |

| I can't identify with the reviews and comments I've seen that claim it is initially fairly inaccessible. It drew me in more quickly than any of their previous releases. |

i'd agree with that, it's 2nd only to White Tomb for me so far. Although I was "ready" to like it from the off, given that I've followed every AOP release it's hard to imagine how they'd be taken by someone hearing them for the first time.
not arsed on the keening track at all, it's an interlude to my ears. Works perfectly in the context of the album but I could take or leave it. |

| Ya I got this and the new primordial within days of each other and on first listen I much preferred Mammal. |

In fairness it's only meant to be taken in the context of the album. |

Thats why I pretty much gave up reading reviews, it is just someones opinion on something. It will vary vastly from listener to listener.
Can't wait to hear the album, the samples I've heard sound like AOP at their best. |

Totally agree with this. I only listened to the album for the first time earlier tonight and it's outstanding. It's a far more mature and dare I say it, more diverse release compared to their other albums, which sound one dimensional in comparison. Feather & Bone grabbed me more than the other tracks with some great vocal melodies on the track. Brilliant release overall. |

Funnily enough I was rooting through some vinyl in an Eindhoven store last few days and came across an ALTAR OF PLAGUES vinyl.....not really as fan myself but cool to see nonetheless.
Infact it was highlighted in the "new arrivals" poster in the window..... |

That's a fuckin great read. He's spot on about the Neanderthal metal types too. Fair fucks to him for actually having the balls to vocalise it |

| good stuff, that demands my presence. This album has won me over completely now. Whenever they come on my MP3 player, even the keening track, (even out of the context of the album) demands my full attention |
