12th - 14th July, 2012 - Fredericia, Denmark.
Quite a tempting line-up.
In an ideal world, I'd be inclined to do this, then make my way down to Thüringen for Hell's Pleasure the following weekend. The real difficulty is deciding if this should be hit over HOA later in the month. I know Denmark is notoriously expensive, but with camping and the promise of cheap beer, it could be a goer.
Has anyone actually been to this? Barry I'm looking in your direction. |

Denmark isn't that expensive. Copenhagen isn't the cheapest city in the world for sure but we're not talking Norwegian prices here. You can expect to pay 40-50kr (€5.00-6.00) for a beer in places like restaurants and central bars. It's pretty much on a par with Sweden for most things, if not a little bit more expensive. Anyway, the further you move away from Copenhagen the cheaper it gets.
Metal Magic is in Fredericia (over 200km away from Copenhagen) so things are cheaper by default. I was there for a concert once and I definitely remember my money stretching a bit further. I've never actually been to Metal Magic even though it's been on my "to visit" list since it started out. I even had a ticket bought one year. I can't really tell you much about it apart from:
- there are a very limited number of tickets that go on sale every year that include camping. If you don't buy one of these then you have to find alternative accommodation in Fredericia (it's a small-medium sized town). This might have changed over the past couple of years. I'll try and clarify.
- the beer is indeed cheap.
- it is run by proper Metal maniacs.
- I *think* one stage is fully outdoor and the other is slightly indoor much like Muskelrock. Again, I'll clarify.
Lorcan, it's looking pretty likely I'll be making it this year and a Metal Magic -> Hells Pleasure -> HOA adventure is certainly on the cards if you want to join in! |

| It doesn't "beer" thinking about. Hopefully I'll have some anti-anxiety meds by then. |

I'd be sorely fucking tempted.
Denmark is a country I'd like to visit at some point soon, but there's so much on the table with European fests this coming year. This, Doomtown, Roadburn, HP, Muskelrock etc....got a lot of picking and choosing to do. |

| Cities like for example Copenhagen are indeed expensive and if you go to shit venues like The Rock one beer is 45-50 kr. At Metal Magic you get ice cold beer for just 25 kr. Camping is included in your ticket, so no extra hidden fees there. The tickets are limited to 500 copies as far as I remember. I am not sure how many visitors we had last year, but I think it was 300 or so. Next year it will probably grow a little again like it has done every year till now. One stage is indoor in a nice dark room and the other one is bigger and outdoor. The gigs switch from one to the other stage all day long and there is never two bands at the same time, so noone has to miss out on anything. The camping area is so small you can't get lost. In fact you can walk from one end of the camp area to the other end of the fest in 3 minutes or so, so it is easy to overlook if you lose your friends. Outside the venue is a terrace for drinking and plenty of tables and DJs playing music. Right next to the festival area is a gas station and a hotel where you can book rooms if you prefer that. Shops, ATMs etc. you can walk to in the city in a few minutes. Billund airport can be the one to take if you want to fly from Ireland. But if you fly to Copenhagen a festival bus can drive you directly to the door (this bus leaves only once on thursday though). On the bus there is cheap beers and a free goodie bag for everyone with free promo stuff from the bands playing). The bus takes you back sunday of course. The busride is extremely killer and total chaos with drinking etc. people say. Haven't taken it myself though as I live in the opposite end of the country. Ticket sale will start in December. Phew, I hope I answered all the questions. If not just ask. |

Great post Ustu! I'm (hopefully) there.
Ryanair cancelled their redirect route to Billund so you have to fly via Stansted these days. I would be really tempted to grab an Interrail ticket for most of July and try to hit as many festivals & gigs as I can. Denmark -> Sweden -> Germany -> burn out. |

www.norwegian.com - Cheap flights from Dublin direct to Copenhagen. Would have to fly out on the Wednesday though. No flights on the Thursday
Would love to hit this one. Laura's photos of this years looked excellent. Really small fesitval with lots of really good bands.
This, followed by HP and then HOA would make for a great trip! Doubt I could get all that time off work though... |

| Wednesday would be grand. As Ustu said, there's a festival bus that leaves Copenhagen on Thursday so we would probably need to fly into the city the previous night anyway. |

| Looks like the festival is about 2 hours plus from Copenhagen anyway. A journey from there would take you over the Storebælt bridge which would be pretty cool. |

Could perceivably do a MM/HP trip anyway. Leave out HOA for now
Metal Magic, Sunday/Monday in Hamburg (about 2.5 hours from Fredercia according to google maps), Tuesday and Wednesday in Berlin and then on to Hells Pleasure... |

| Aye, true enough. The HOA line-up/craic is stellar though. I can't see myself missing it. |

In fairness I'd happily trade HOA for another fest at this rate. The Banter is always great for sure.
But the lineup last year was pretty disastrous, bar Slough Feg. The banter/craic at it is the only real reason to go back. |

| It is possible to camp already on the wednesday if you want to. There will be a couple of no name bands doing soundchecks/gigs indoor and beer for sale, so there is a bit of entertainment. No busride that day already though. The bus from Copenhagen airport is only on thursday and leaves around noon from right outside the airport. |
