Does anyone know much about Czech beer? I don't like lager, so is there any ale type Czech beer?
Czech beer in general is piss.
Avoid Staropramen and Pilsner Urquell at all costs.
I hope they have better beer pouring skills than Masters of rock as nobody there seemd to know how to pour a fucking beer.
Never seen that much head on lager in my life.Truly shocking regardless how cheap it was. |

Say this in Czech Republic and you'll return to Ireland in a coffin
The Czech Republic has the highest beer consumption per capita in the world and beer is considered to be one of the symbols of the country, which all the people are proud of (and there's not that much to be proud of in Czech Republic, so people get very sensitive when you insult the few things they like about their country).

According to the statistics he has the biggest chance to be axed, however if he says it on a wrong place in a wrong time, all three options can be correct
(Personally it doesn't bother me, I prefer Belgian and German beer, I'm just giving him useful tips to make his trip safer) |

Phil. pm me your email contact. I'll be there from the wednesday.
I have been told that budvar 1778 has a dark beer version, is this correct and are there any other good czech dark beers?
Am not liking the thursday lineup at this at all. |

Last time I was there it was possible to buy black Velkopopovicky Kozel (there are two words used for dark beer; "tmavy" (dark) and "cerny" (black) but they mean the same thing). However, Czech dark beer is not stout so it won't taste like Guinness or Beamish or whatever you're used to.
And as there's no chance you're gonna remember the name, simply look for a bottle with a goat:

| Great Festival. Highlight for me was seeing Gods Tower, pure class. Arkona went down a storm, enjoyed Napalm Death and Morgoth. Brain is melted right now, the cerny beer was too easily drunk. The downside was the ridiculously slow moving queue on the wednesday, meaning a lot of people missed all the bands altogether that day. |

Absolute class festival...weather was great, facilities were fantastic in terms of choice of food and drinks (actually having half litre glasses and being able to buy spirits!), the back-drop of the fortress was amazing, people were really friendly and talkative, fantastic lineup with only a few exceptions
Only major problem for me was with the travelling and that was just because I flew dublin to frankfurt, got a bus to prague, prague to Hrdarc and then to Jaromir. 28 hours there and back. Shall definitely be booking flights earlier this year. Hopefully cork might start up a route there as well.
Definitely expecting to go back there again.
Good to bump into the Ard as well. Those budvar dark were class! |
