Trains booked. Fingers crossed we make it in time for Dead Congregation, they really could have spread the bands out a bit more. Thursday is pretty full on.

Rompeprop cancelled, if anyone concerned.
And a band called Rectal Smegma Smile is announced as a replacement.

Gospel Of The Goats, Goat Congregation, Goat Thrower.
Too many goats and satans.
Necros Cola!

Easily the best open air fest I've ever been at. Well, I've said the same about Sweden Rock before:)
The best death/black/thrash metal open air then.

As usual, Bolt Thrower were absolutely crushing at Party.San on Thursday night. The absolute highlight of the festival for me. Not a great indication for the quality of the festival as a whole, given that they played the first of three nights, but I found it was a mixed bag all in all, some highs, some lows, but generally good fun.

Saturday barely bears mentioning, the line up was that modest. Whether it was Tankard (purveyors of pointless shite since back in the day) or Toxic Holocaust and Warbringer (new wave of purveyors of pointless shite from back in the day) or cult but shite Black Metal ala Ragnarok and Archgoat, the stuff on the main stage was barely worth watching. The line up in the tent consisted of largely unknown bands, but way more enjoyable. Venenum headlined in the tent and were easily the second best band of the last day (vastly improved on Hell's Pleasure last year). The only other positive (line-up wise) from the Saturday was Naglfar. I thought they were incredible. It was my first time seeing them and they were the only reason I actually bothered to stay for the Saturday. I was sorely tempted to hop in the car and drive home after the last band on Friday night but as it turned out it was worth staying for Naglfar alone. No 'Emerging From Her Weepings' unfortunately but the set was vicious from beginning to end and finished perfectly with 'Harvest.'

The only real organisational complaint of the weekend I have was the two and a half hour queue to get in (with a car) on Thursday. I was there in loads of time because I wanted to catch the openers Dead Congregation and In Solitude but the Swedes were just finishing as I finally get to the festival site. Well irritating. Other than Sodom, the rest of Thursday was cool. Too bright and sunny for Necros Christos, but they were enjoyable nevertheless. Picked up even more then with Nifelheim and Solstafir. (Vallenfyre in between were so-so.)

The Friday line-up was very mixed. Assaulter and GotH were both excellent (Assaulter much better than at Hell's Pleasure, I thought) and then there were a few hours of nothing until Dark Fortress, Immolation and Ghost Brigade (cool!) got things going again. Nile strangely enough seemed really quiet to me. The sound was very clear and all, but the guitars were really low and powerless somehow. And what can you say about the headliners ... Immortal. If I was a football fan I'm sure the adjective I'd be inclined to use is 'disgrace.' As much as I love everything up to and including 'At The Heart Of Winter,' the band now is an unmitigated steaming pile of shit and Abbath should really be put out to pasture. I'm tempted to call him a clown, but then I suppose ultimately the laugh is on those people who time and again pay lots of money to get him up on the stage so that he can take the piss out of them for an hour or so and then laugh all the way to the bank.

Anyway, good festival, good site, few problems (bar admission on the Thursday), generally good sound, good atmosphere, very mixed line-up.

Highlights: Bolt Thrower, Naglfar, Venenum, Solstafir, Assaulter, Ghost Brigade, GotH
