Keep forgetting that the gig is tonight.

Was thinking about the prospect of the crowd starting a 'Bill Ward' chant or something and what the band will do.

Interested in seeing the set list as well...

Interested to see the state of Tony - he just can't be physically well. From the sounds of Geezer's post about the costs of putting on Download, it sounds more like a contractual obligation rather than them really wanting to do it.

Apparently it was Bill who asked for his images to be removed from the website,

Quote:
Black Sabbath say pictures of Bill Ward were removed from the band’s official website at the request of the drummer’s representatives.

Fans were quick to react in fury after the website change, which mirrored Van Halen’s 2007 attempt to airbrush bassist Michael Anthony from their history.

But after Sabbath played their warm-up show in Birmingham last night, ahead of their Download Festival appearance, they confirmed Ward’s people had called for the move.

The said: “At the request of Bill Ward, through his attorney, so as to not give the public the wrong impression about his involvement in the current Black Sabbath lineup, we have temporarily removed Bill Ward’s images from the main pages of the official website. In accordance with Bill Ward’s attorney’s request, we are doing so for the duration of the forthcoming shows.”

Before the announcement, one upset fan had put “Black Sabbath’s integrity” on eBay.

Tony Conley of Facebook page 1,000,000 Black Sabbath Fans say Yes to Bill Ward had commented: “That is simply one of the most dastardly, chickenshit things I have ever seen done in my 40-some years of watching rock and roll. Definitely the manoeuvre with the least class, and disrespect. Your fans deserve better, Bill deserves better, and you deserve better.”

The band’s official biography retained a quote from singer Ozzy Osbourne: “In my opinion, there’s only ever been one Black Sabbath, and that’s Iommi, Osbourne, Butler and Ward.” That’s reinforced in the official discography, which only includes albums featuring Osbourne.

Five years ago Van Halen replaced Anthony’s image on their back-catalogue covers with those of his replacement, guitarist Eddie’s son Wolfgang. In the band video game Wolfgang was seen performing tracks that had been written and released long before he was born. They later backed down after a massive fan backlash.

Black Sabbath played their hometown charity warm-up with the addition of Ozzy Osbourne’s solo band drummer Tommy Clufetos. Revealing his inclusion, bassist Geezer Butler called him a “great bloke” and regretted the reunion had become a “soap opera on the internet,” adding that he hoped to play again with Ward in the future.

I look forward to Bill's next victim impact statement. What an embarrassing mess.

However, reading Sabbath photo removal post it's very legally awkward sounding. It never explicitly says Bill wanted his photos removed (with that in mind you should read it again). And sure what involvement would've Bill had in Sabbath's web design! It sounds like Bill may've said something like, "I want it clear to the fans that I've no involvment in this reunion" and Sabbath interpreted this, or are more likely using this as cover to remove the photos. The word 'we [have temporily]' implies the Sabbath camp have the control in this photo-cutting situation but phrase the other sentences like it was at Bill's insistance. Imo, the two issues aren't as connected as the post is trying to make out.

I think it's pretty clear that at no point did Bill or his representatives request his presence be airbrushed out of existence, just that it be made clear among all the bleating about the "original lineup" that he isn't a part of it and it's not the original lineup. Think about it. Nice spin, though, from the Osbourne witch who is both skilled and experienced in these matters and well used to being a devisive cunt. They could have put up a contemporary picture of the three of them but, instead, they've used archive pictures - again cashing in on the legacy, the "original lineup" schitck they're using to sell the tickets and album. It's fucking pathetic.

The real tragedy, as alluded to by Geezer is "those things are worked out between our representatives, and never between the four of us". Original lineup my arse, it stopped being about four working class lads from Aston a long time ago.

Although I've always sided more in the Sabbath camp I think this was more the on-going lack of communication between the parties. I suspect it was a warm-up gig long before it was a charity gig and nobody told Bill of the change in status.

Glad the gig was good btw, footage on youtube looked great. Tony looked better than I would've thought.

Yep, unfortunately (?) the set-list is pretty much unreal! Great to see To' in apparent good shape...despite the whole mess all of that "Reunion" thing has become!!

"Hello my fans. I am humbled by the outpouring of support you've shown me. On this third round of negotiations my lawyers have sent to Ozzy's attorneys, here is how the reunion stands. Keep in mind I have nothing but respect for my former bandmates, so I wish to not speak in derogatory terms of them.
However, the contract is still unsignable and I am breaking my silence to divulge the reasons why.**** It's unsignable because Sharon Osbourne only wanted to give Geezer and I five percent each, along with 10 percent for Tony****. Mind you, I am not on the dole and I don't need a few quid that badly. I have my honor and as an original member of Black Sabbath I deserve to be shown respect.
Might I add that Sharon also included some mighty rich stipulations to that contract as well. She never forgave me for leaving Ozzfest in 1997 and departing the next year due to health reasons. Bloody nonsense! She made sure that on any of the tour riders I would not get a vegan platter, plus she wanted me to walk Ozzy's twelve dogs before each show.
To top it off, Sharon wanted us to do a version of "Changes" on the setlist that featured Kelly Osbourne dueting with Ozzy. I'm sorry mate, but that's where I draw the line. It was also in the contract that I would have to feature all these new commercial bands that Sharon manages on my monthly radio show on WPMD. What a load of horse bollocks. I can't handle that woman since she threw eggs at our mates in Iron Maiden years back, which upset me enough to leave that tour.
The most unacceptable thing, in my opinion, was how Sharon's management team insisted that the new album we would put out should contain commercial sounding metal that would make it easier for us to get airplay. The boys and I were thinking of calling the new album "Doomination," but she thought the title was too limiting. So, at this point, the contract is still unsignable. Mind you, I am ready at any moment to board a plane from California to Birmingham if a proper contract with no degrading stipulations exists, one in which I'd also get a proper twenty-five percent."

You beat me to it. Was looking for it on BW's page but couldn't find anything from him. Then I saw the link. The website is another story altogether. http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/news/black-sabbath-wipe-bill-ward-from-photo-history/

It was meh, the crowd were pretty quiet during it, cheered at the end, and it did lead directly into Iron Man. It was a great show and 2 hours was great and Tony looked in good shape, as did Geezer and Ozzy (who was on fine form to be honest).

Also setlist was leaked earlier on the day:
