Less of a gear topic, but possibly related none the less. If it's not mods feel free to lock or move to off topic.
Anyway, back in October I was on the bad end of a cut to my left index finger. I play guitar right handed, so my left hand is my fretting hand. The cut was deep enough to cause damage to the tendon, it was partially cut. I cant properly bend the tip of my finger.
Turns out this kind of thing makes fretting a lot harder. Has anyone had any finger related injuries and what did you do if anything to get around it?
It hurts quite a bit to press down on the strings for too long and makes some chord and picking patterns impossible to smoothly transition into. |

It'll eventually get easier for you, balls of an injury for a guitar player.
had a similar injury myself, dislocating my index finger on my fretting hand. Made the mistake of playing a gig the following weekend. Its shaped the way I play since, I just simply found a way to adapt. Sometimes it locks straight (handy organic guitar slide) but I'm used to it at this stage.
I don't feel particularly restricted now, but it did take time for that sensitive zing feeling to go away. Endure, it will take time. |

| the guitar player in my band gama bomb tore a tendon in june of last year, its only getting back to full shred now.if your serious about playing you defo need to go to the doctors and take time off.domo had to miss like 3 tours,so you need to give it as long as it takes to heal |

| I get tendonitis at least once a year in my right elbow. Just warm up as much as poss and you should be okay. If you're playing for a few hours or recording or something make sure you keep everything stretched. Rest is the only remedy for tenodinitis IMO. |

I have had problems with RSI before and could not play the guitar or piano for weeks.
I was told to take a week off work and rest it - I could only take 2 days, but it seemed to help. It is very frustrating as you can even play video games.
Whatever you do, with a tendon injury of any kind don't overdo it by trying "play through the pain" to make it stronger. This will not work as it will weaken the tendon as it is constantly moving.
The only cure for tendon inflammation or injury is resting it - it will likely never be as strong as it was before. |

That cut to the finger sounds nasty, hope it works out OK.
Like others have said, the only cure (if you could call it that) for tendon and nerve injuries is lots of rest (though not sure how much that applies to the OP's injury which sounds more complicated). Our drummer's had awful trouble with his left shoulder and arm over the past year and like idiots we ploughed on regardless thinking a bit of physio and accupuncture would take care of it. No chance. Extended periods of rest are yer only man.
We took a 2 month break there recently and now our drummer's back better than ever. He also happened to get laid off from his job as an industrial painter which, from a health standpoint, was of benefit when it came to resting his shoulder and arm. |

Ye I tore a tendon in my fretting hand a few years back playing rugby.
It never healed properly so i'm left not being able to bend the tip of my ring finger. (Can't touch it off my palm withou bending my knucle)
It had a fairly significant effect but after a while when its not sore I just got on with it. I'm no shredder so that could mainly be why but its not the worst hand injury for guitar playing. |

in regards to individual finger injury's it is important to concentrate on the dexterity of it rather than stamina, strength will build later, but its important to obtain as much movement as possible i.e flexablility.if your playing with an injury rest is the only cure.
I dont know myself if i have developed a injury in my right hand, between thumb and index finger, becuase strain comes and go's,but it dose lead to a heavy cramp at times but this can also be down to a simple thing like holding my pick incorrectly |
