Strange that you would like the Coen Brothers, considering they are foreign. Anyway.

Blood Simple
Fargo
Raising Arizona
Barton Fink
Millers Crossing
Hudsucker
O' Brother
No Country
True Grit

All amazing. Might be a bit too artsy for you though by the sounds of it

Dude, in my hungover state the other day I may have exaggerated my dislike for foreign/artsy films. Jesus, my sincerest apologies if I have offended you. Can we move on now?

Think Miller's Crossing and Raising Arizona are the only ones there I've yet to watch. The rest are anywhere between good and excellent. No Country for Old men is a fuckin gem.

I managed to omit The Man Who Wasn't There, which I haven't seen in years but recall being pretty awesome

That one doesn't ring a bell at all. I've those previous 2 to download so i'll fire that one down too. Is it one of them ones you kinda have to be in the mood for? I find a lot of their stuff is like that. In a good way like

All those Coen's are killer except for No Country for Old Men. What a snoozefest. Terrible film.

Watched 21 Jump St last night, lot of filler but it has four of five bits that are laugh out loud funny.

really enjoyed No Country. Conversely didn't enjoy 21 Jump St at all.

Yeah I guess so, its neo-noir, and not nearly as 'quirky' (for want of a better term) as a lot of their work

Hansel and Gretel- Very, very slow. Last 25 mins where things are revealed is pretty good but it's quite a trek to get there. Personally I could have done with not seeing it.

The Crazies- does what it says on the tin. Nothing original but quite fun.

Thirst- A bit repetitive and drawn out but good enough. Also has one of the longest sex scenes since seeing Billy Bob mule it into Halle Berry.

The Woman in Black- Shot very well, it looks great. Even "Harry" isn't dreadful (not brilliant either). Some quite tense moments but the ending was fuckin naff.

I really enjoyed Hansel & Gretel, although I admit it was a bit slow.

Watched Lockout and Badass last night.

Lockout was never going to be brilliant but Jesus, it's up there with the worst films I've ever watched. The only actor to take any credit out of it should be the crazy guy who apparently has done over 250 episodes of Emmerdale...thank you IMDB.

Bad Ass on the other hand was surprisingly excellent despite the ominous tag-line of "They messed with the wrong senior citizen".

Do you mean Romero's the crazies? If so I think that's a great film. Haven't seen the remake and have no plans to either.

Fantastic film, the first Romero movie i ever saw... remake is pretty weak and lacks all the social commentary of the original.

Watched "Meeting Evil" at the weekend, horrible movie... it was like an exercise in bad "made for TV" film making - only saved with a few decent one liners from Samuel L. I got the impression that most of not all of the dialogue was adlibbed?! fucking bullshit anyway.

I'm interested in seeing Cronenberg's new one "Cosmopolis"...

I've downloaded Timescapes - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2297031/ - in high def, but i'm waiting 'til i buy a new TV to watch it... looks awesome.

Nah, twas the remake alright. Grand to switch brain off to. Haven't actually seen the original so obviously the remake would be significantly worse

I'm not joking, or taking the piss out of you. Talking wolf. It actually happens. People who've seen it can verify this.

I won't sway you, nor do I care to as I don't particularly like the film anyway, but having seen it, I don't think it is all shock value. I just found the film overall very tedious.

Antichrist, and most LVT, is so crushingly effective it's scary. It's just that people, who are stupid, are more interested in things being "realistic" than artistic these days. These days being a very long time all the same. He manages to construct real modern myths in the most pessimistic and life-embracing way. Genius. And the opening scene is shot to perfection, and nothing in it is for purely shock value, only a stupid person (see above) would conclude that. Their baby dies (this is not a spoiler) WHILE they're fucking, ya get it? Their joint lust leads to the death of their baby and the wife can't handle the guilt, roll film.
